| People say push up and in against the plunger and it should go in, but both of my SA 1911 is impossible to do without using a screw driver to depress the plunger. I hate using the screwdriver, any suggestion? |

When it's one springer there might be something wrong (i.e. burr in the plunger/tube). When it's two springers, you're the problem. Screwdrivers are not necessary, but based on the fitting of the part, how new the weapon is, and the character of individual weapon, some are harder than others. Just have a firm grasp (literally and figuratively) on what you are doing or prepare for the idiot scratch hall of shame. |
LOL, already put the "idiot scratch" on my 1st 1911 during initial cleaning and lubing... a Colt Special Combat Government . Thank God for hard chrome finishes! That sucker was a BITCH to get in. Oh well, it's not a very bad mark (not nearly as bad as some of the pics around here). It gives the gun character, I don't plan on selling it, and I know it will get more "character" through use .Slight upward pressure on the lever during insertion is the key. Go easy, and slow and it WILL go in like it's supposed to. |

My SA Loaded had a "flat-faced" plunger that did not provide nearly enough of the proper bevel for the slide stop to slide past it. It also had a plunger spring that put so much pressure on the slide stop that the slide stop wouldn't consistently move up when the mag was empty. I reshaped the plunger end to match the profile of my properly built guns, then put in a slightly lighter spring. |
