Hey Guys,

I've narrowed it down to three pistols, I'm looking for a good entry level 1911.  All three are within my $700 budget.

The first is a Like NIB Colt Stainless 80 Series Goverment model 5"

Second is a NIB STI Spartan 5"

Third is a NIB Springfield Mil-Spec (Not GI) stainless 5"

Help me out, I'm new to 1911's and leaning toward the Colt, but I've heard good reports on all three....

Thanks - Andy

You'll never have to explain or reason your buying decision on a shooting range to some idiot who doesn't know dick from scratch about 1911s. Heirloom value, and should ever decide. Resale. Plus it just feels damn good to be a Colt owner.

Can you inspect the Colt before buying it?

You can't go wrong with any of those.  For me in order:

Colt
STI
SA

No, its for sale on a website.  From the pics it looks like a brand new gun.

Would you want to wait until you have more saved up and get something Loaded?  I was going to buy a milspec, but the dealer told me I should wait until I can afford all the bells and whistles.  Since he had no guarantee that I would return to purchase from him and would rather have me buy a milspec and then return to buy a loaded 1911, I took his advice.  I had to wait another 2 1/2 months, but I got a model that cost more and I'm very pleased.

I thought about the loaded models, but really didn't have to have all the extras.  I saw the colt and thought it may be a good deal.

What are the warranties on the pistols,, and what confidence do you have in the various companies?

If I'm correct Springfield is a lifetime warranty, I'm not sure on STI or the Colt.

Also, the Springfield IS a "Loaded" model for less than $700, I thought it was mil-spec until I checked the serial # on SA website.

If that is the case then I change my order:

SA
Colt
STI

I think it's now between the Colt and SA.  I"m now torn, I've always wanted a COLT, but the SA Loaded at $700 shipped is an great deal......

get the colt. IT will always be a colt.

Not gonna have near the Bells and Whistles as the Springfield, but it's got a pony on it! If it's a 1991 colt though, I may change to Springfield....

Arent Springfields made in Brazil???

Some of the pistols are assembled in Brazil and some are here in the US.  From what I've read, no matter what SA pistol it is, the frames, slides, & barrels are all forged in the Imbel plant in Brazil.  That being said, most of the assembly takes place here in the US.

Did they send jobs overseas, or did they bring in more pistols to sell?

I'd go the Colt route myself.  I own a SA milspec stainless that I picked up for $585 new, a Sig GSR that I bought for $1200 when they first came out, and a Colt defender that I recently picked up for $900 new.  I like the Colt best of  the three I have, the Sig second, and the Milspec 3rd.  having said that, the Milspec is better than a Colt 1991A1 I owned a few years back for the same money.  As others mentioned, the Colt will always be a Colt, if you can find one in good condition at a good price, I'd buy it.  Plus, older used Colts won't have any MIM parts, if that matters to you.  Bottom line though, you'lll probably be happy with any of the three guns you listed,  so buy the one that you like best, and damm the discussion board response.
