Range Toy , Self Defense , Gun Games ?? ![]() IMHO - qanything over $1000 , Go SemiCustom. . |
|
I purchased a Springfield Armory Loaded parkerized model about 3 months ago and can't be happier. The price was good and the performance has been flawless. Don't forget SA is also know as having some of the best customer service in the industry. The loaded is a great option and I agree with the above post regarding cost. At some point going semi-custom makes sense. I'll probably never be in that league financially. |

Springfield because of the warranty. Every experience I've had with them has been a positive one. When I bought my first 1911 it was at a 'gun show' in CA (distributors at a local gun shop). I was 18 and with my dad and asked to see the TLE RL II (was between that the MC Operator and the Springfield rep indulged my every question). The guy behind the (Kimber) counter told me he was busy with someone else and didn't really have time. Oh boy I enjoyed telling my dad to buy the MC Operator at the booth not 2 feet from his. His face was as red as a tomato when he realized I was actually buying a gun. Because of that experience alone I'm all Springfield. |

I would go with the Loaded due to the adjustable sights IF the gun won't be a CCW gun. Nothing worse than a fixed sight gun that won't shoot POA, IMO............ If price is an issue, then the other Springfield you list would be my choice. I freely admit my Springfield bias as I own three of them & they ALL shoot perfectly! ![]() My .o2 |
Kimber custom 2 without a doubt.

The Kimber to get is their basic Custom. It just doesn't make much sense to pay another $400-500 for the gingerbread bullshit they add on their *cough* "higher end" models. Springfields (aka Imbel America) are OK but nothing special. The best thing about them is their forged slide and frame, and their warranty, which you stand a pretty good chance of using if you aren't comfortable doing basic work on 1911s, like tuning the extractor and replacing the mainspring housing. When you can get one built correctly, they are good to go. I'd suggest looking at the STI Spartan. They are damned hard to beat for the money. |
Yes, Geneseo, Illinois is in Brazil... Some of their frames and slides are forged by Imbel (IIRC) in Brazil, but are finished and pistols are all assembled in the USA. One of the SAs would be my choice. I own an older Kimber Custom Classic and it's a great pistol. But, the curent guns they produce are reportedly not of the same quality as the older ones. |
| just because their USA headquarters are in Il. does not make them an American owned co. they have alot of their lower end handguns are made in the same factory as new taurus, Rock Island has offices in the USA but they are still Phil. not American and yes I know where Geneseo Ill. is |

So I got some quotes from a guy... wanted to get your guys's opinions before I bought it. For the 9152LP - $818 For the 9154LP - $719 he said that both were series 80 and both came with thumb safety's? I haven't seen them yet as I was going tomorrow... but that seems like a good price to me. Anything sneaky I should look out for if that seems too good to be true? |
As far as SA has no firing pin safety, but series 70/80 is a Colt thing/designation that people tag onto other makers to describe whether or not there is that FP safety. Maybe AMBI safety? As far as something to look for, check if the serial number has an NM prefix. That prefix means better fitting and a one piece barrel from what I understand. |
|
The Springfield guns with the NM serial number Prefix are the US made guns and are preferable to the Brazilian made models. While I have a Kimber Custom II I do not like the Swartz firing pin block and removed the one in mine. My choice would be the PX9154LP, preferably (if you can find one) with a NM prefixed Serial Number. |
| OP, just in case you've been worried by our potato imbibing friend and his greasy French fry induced paranoia and foreign ownership conspiracy ideas... Springfield Armory Inc is American owned and operated. |
Lighten up Francis. I didn't personally attack you. First, I responded (with a wink) that SA is not from Brazil as you incorrectly stated. Second, I made good natured light of your username in my response to what appears to be blatant trolling on your part to discredit SA and accuse them incorrectly of not being an American owned company. Next time, don't post BS about a company that you cannot back up with documentation. |
