just wondering how bad recoil is on the glock 19's and the glock 17's compared to say the springfield 1911's.  Im wondering because I am getting ready to start ipsc and uspsa shooting and I know the 1911's are a lot heavier, but dose that help??

Lighter as in not as severe, as in not as heavy, as in not as pronounced, as in less noticeable.

They do have different recoil pulse.  My all steel 1911 pushes straight back.  With 9mm,Sig or Glock, it is more of a muzzle flip.  I re-gain my sight picture faster with a 1911. YMMV

is there anyway to reduce muzzle flip??  or do the target glocks have less recoil??

9MM is more of a gentle flip where as .45 is a hard, yet gradual, push.

My G26 is quite controllable.

recoil on a glock?  define recoil.

both are great shooters in thier respected 9mm and .45acp calibers and std frames

a tad more flip and a little more noticible push in the hand w/ the .45acps

glock 17, quick pop
glock 19 snappy pop, little flip
1911, boom & push, not very snappy.

I have less recoil on my G19 than my 1911. G19s are fantastic little pistols.

On a Glock 35, it has an open bore on top of the slide for balance.  As for recoil, very easy on me....especially for being a .40S&W, compared to a 9mm.

is there any diference between the G17 and the G19?

Yes, the G19 has a shorter barrel and a slightly shorter grip.

G17=fullsize
G19=medium size
G26=compact

EXACTLY.  Same way for me.  The G19 is fun to shoot too though.

Wrong, it is to keep the slide weight the same as a Glock 17, allowing the use of the same recoil springs.

To me, The Glock 19 which is my regular carry gun has very little recoil. I imagine the 17 would have even less. The 1911 .45 has a bit more bark but like others said it kind of a slow push compared to a snap. I prefer the 9mm for doing most of my shooting since the recoil is less and ammo is cheaper. Gotta love the 45 though.

I have an ancient 1911 and a Glock 17.

You're comparing two different calibers, and IMO, the difference is due primarily to the caliber, not the gun design, despite the fact that gun design can have a large influence on perceived recoil.

The 9mm has a less forceful, but more "sudden" recoil. It's snappier. Neither is as snappy as .40 S&W. The .45 ACP has a heavier recoil for sure, but it seems "slower".

For me, it's easier to keep the Glock sights on target. Less muzzle flip with the Glock 9mm than the 1911 .45.

Neither has "harsh" recoil, and the differenc isn't huge.
