Ive had  a Ruger GP-100 4" for sometime now and am so-so about the pistol, the groups I get from this model are at times frustrating, benched or not.My reloads are(158gr swc 6.5gr Bullseye)
Ive completed trigger work on it and its help quite a bit,the revolver looks and feels nice, but Im still ???? about the accuracy.
Any comments from GP owners will be appreciated.
    Thanks

I had the same pistol for about 3 years.  I loved it.  The accuracy was great.

Have someone else bench test your gun and see how they shoot.  This can sometimes give you a much better picture of the accuracy.  You may just not "match" this particular pistol.  You've picked up other people's pistol that you don't like....maybe this is one of them....it just happens to be your gun.

If you aren't confident in it....get rid of it.  The resale/trade value is good.  There are lots of great options out there.

Just my opinion.

Hate to say it, but its probably you.  My SP101 would be more accurate if I threw the thing at the target...I need trigger practice as well.

I agree with drjeffallen.

Have someone else, that is a competent shooter, fire the gun.  Unless there is some serious damage to the gun, I suspect it is technique, not mechanics.

I would go hungry before I would get rid of my GP.  I've got the 4" stainless fixed site version.  Its moderately accurate at 1 1/2" to 2" groups at 25 and shoots a little high and to the right.  I handload for most of my guns except this one so it could probably benefit from good handloads.

In my opinion and experience, the ruger revolvers are more durable than Smiths or other name brands.  A spring kit and a 1000 rounds later and it shoots pretty smooth.  Mine also has the round butt version of the ruger grips which is a feature I like.

I believe you shot a bulleye and hit it right on the money, I know its not the pistol,it may just be a tad bit too small for me.I shoot my other rugers with complete satisfaction.
THanks guys and by the way--I hate when youre right.

I had to trade my GP100 for a S&W 66.........I dunno; the Security-Six is the only Ruger wheel-gun I can seem to shoot worth a damn.

You only mention one reload, and its a lead bullet load.  Many gun / barrels are finicky about which lead bullets they will shoot well.  In addition, lead bullet quality can very a huge amount from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I definately wouldn't pass judgement on this gun until you have tried several different bullet weight / brand combinations, along with several different types of powders and charge weights.

With my 6" GP100, the best group I ever shot at 25 yards was with the most unlikely of all loads, a very very hot load, with a 210 grain hardcast TC bullet.  Who would have thought that this load would group under 1.5"?  Not me, but I tried it and it was great.

My 6" GP-100 will hold 2.5" or under at 25 yards no matter what I feed it.  My reloads of 148 DEWC and 3.5 gr Bullseye in .357 cases will hold 1.5" easily.  This is a very mild load by the way, around 750 fps w/o any leading;  recoils slightly harder than a .22LR.

I don't know offhand what kind of velocity you are getting with your load but you may have a leading issue that needs to be fixed with some elbow grease.

In my .41 Mag, a 210gr. cast bullet and 8.0 gr bullseye gives me 1250fps which does create leading.  Not much, but enough that after a 100 rounds I've got some work to do.  If you have neglected to clean the lead out for a few hundred rounds accuacy will suffer.

NOTE: Be certian you flare the case enough to prevent scraping off lead when seating the bullet.  The scraping of lead will foul the barrel very quickly.
