I was looking at a older 1911 I have and noticed that the front sight (Standard cut sights)is all black and has a hole in it as if it held some kind of insert.I would like to at least have a white dot for some kind of reference point when shooting.Anyone tell me what I need to put in there. Some kind of colored dot and how would I get it to stay.

The easiest and least expensive way to put a reference point in is with sight paint.

If it's a one time thing, than any color enamel paint from a hobby shop and a toothpick or very fine brush would work.

Putting a actual dot in there would depend on what the sight had, pictures would help.
