Would it be possible for a qualified gunsmith to cut a government frame down to officer size?

I believe so, but unless you have a very good reason to spend $$$ to destroy the value of what you have it would make a world of sense to buy a new weapon with a compact frame, or have your slide fitted to a newly purchased and fitted compact frame.

Put 1 of each sans grips side by side -  I think that the lower grip bushing hole is near the edge of the magwell window (portion cut out of frame) on both sizes and thereby would not allow for the change.

However, I could be talking out of my ass.

you may be right Wes, but the window could also be welded up and a new hole drilled....could it be done? Yes I believe so....is it worth it? Doubtful since you can buy a new Caspian frame for under $300....

You can buy the Caspian frame for under $200, actually...unless you want a rail and magwell.

Well that's still under $300

Yeah you're right though, a new one is $177.75
No way is a smith going to cut a gov frame for less than that...
