Do any of you carry or have thought about carrying a flashlight along with everything else? I'm out and about at night more so than the day and I carry a 1911 with no rail. I've often thought about buying a small flash light carrier to bring along one of the Streamlights. Just wondering if it's worth the trouble or not. |

I carry two lights with me. They are both Surefire G2 Nitrolons. One has a 65 lumens output bulb and the other is 120 lumens*. My occupation requires me to inspect equipment frequently so I use the 65 light quite a bit. The 120 light is on a lanyard ( necklace) that I wear around my neck during the hours of darkness. 120 lumens is a brilliant light and makes even the most hardcore bad guy avert his/her eyes. At that point, their attack is twarted and I can then take control of the situation. The lanyard has a magnetic latch that will easily break apart if the BG grabs the light and tries to strangle me with the cord. I practice often drawing my weapon while grabbing the light suspended around my neck. With the light in my hand, I put my fingers along my jawline. Thus illuminating whatever is in front of me. Because of the locality of the warehouses that I service, I frequently have to deal with people that are less than honorable. So far, 120 lumens has been enough to encourage them to move along. * Lumens are units of measure like inches, ounces, grains, etc. It is just a way to enumerate the intensity of the light being produced. |
I hear ya man. I don't think that Batman carries as much crap as I do everyday.
Well, it doesn't work for everybody. It works for me. Like I stated, I only wear it like that when it is dark out. I can assure you that after that first "episode" of having an unfriendly come upon you in the dark, you will not mind having a little weight hanging around your neck. |
| I carry a flash light at ALL times. In uniform (Marines) obviously I can not carry my CCW because of military base rules. I always have a Leatherman Wave as well as a bit kit for the wave and a MagLite AA with a red lense on my belt. Doesnt matter if I'm in the field or what. When I am not in uniform I always have my CCW on (live off base) and I just transfer the light and multi-tool onto my civie belt. Since either one of my carry guns have a rail I also carry an X200 in my pocket somewhere. I dont have a holster for the light but BladeTec makes a kydex belt attachment just for the X200 that I will probably get sooner or later since haveing the light in my pocket gets to be kind of bothersome at times. Point is I have two lights on me at all times. |

yes, carrying a flashlight is worth the "trouble"--1/2 of a day is night...and they just come in handy wherever i carry a Surefire G2 w/ the Shock Isolated bezzel (sorry, but the bezzle is needed as i have had 2 lamps 'break' on me ) and/or an Inova X30 (GREAT 3 watt LED imo...) |
| I carry my Surefire E1L everywhere, everyday. Unlike my carry gun, I actually use the flashlight on a regular basis. And because I travel outside the US on a regular basis (couple of weeks each month), it also doubles as the only weapon (impact) I am carrying a lot of the time. |

I always have a few flashlights in my car and often carry my Pelican M6 LED light around. It produces 65 lumens from a 3 (or is it 5?) watt LED. It is the same shape and size as a Surefire 6P but runs an LED and gets several hours of use instead of just one or two. In fact, I've taken batteries that would no longer run my 6P and G2 and put them in the Pelican and they ran for several more hours. It's never failed me and like my 6P it's been all kind of strange places, I've had it underwater, dropped it on several occasions, gotten it slathered in mud, and washed it off in the sink, etc. It's a very good light. I don't carry it everywhere I go, but it's on me more often than not. |

Surefire e2e every day. Flashlights are an amazing tool. You can "flash" someone and if for some reason they didn't "deserve" it, it's a minor inconvenience for them rather than getting OC'd or shot. The light also has a strong deterrent effect on most people and in a fight it's a good impact tool (I think the "pointy" bezels don't really offer any significant benefit - it's going to hurt - pointy or not - if you get hit with a bezel). Flashlights (like someone already mentioned) can still get on airplanes and are going to be legal to carry pretty much anywhere. |

Always have an E2D with me. In college Poly Sci (required to graduate, I am an engineer) class about 150 people and the professor hits the wrong button on the set up down front and I reach into my laptop case and pull out my little E2D and from the back row there is a spotlight beam down to the prof so he can see the buttons to turn it back on. All the corp cadet guys we leaning back asking me what the heck that was. It was a good day to be an engineer, poor poly sci kids just more of the same to look forward to. Looking for something in the dark that everyone else can see clear as day. -Bob |
I carry the E2D, too. It fits comfortably and easily a pocket. And it has a good metal(as opposed to crappy plastic)pocket clip. I bought it becasue it was on sale, but I didn't really want the weaponized bezel. I thought it would snag on clothing too much, but it doesn't snag hardly at all. I'm pretty sure it would draw blood, though. Smack a 2x4 and look at the imprint it makes. Usually one or two deep tooth marks, not five shallow ones like you'd think. There's a lot of darkness indoors. Today I used my light to track down some ice cream in the back of the walk in freezer at work. Only carrying a light at night is like only carrying a pistol when you go to a bad neighborhood. ETA: They let me take it in the Federal building last week, too. But not my phone or my holster (it has a small bit of metal in it).

Another BIG +1 for the E1E. Not as bright as some, but soooo small that I can carry it 24/7 without much trouble. Everyday, all the time. Handgun, Kershaw Leek, CRKT KISS money clip w/Photon Micro LightII attached, and then my E1E. Whats funny is how quickly you become dependant on your equipment. If I forget something, invariably thats the day I reach for the blade or light source and don't have it..... |
| I carry a photon Freedom on my keyring and THIS LIGHT in my front weak side pants pocket. |

I carry either a Surefire 6P or G2. Both have a CREE LED 3 Watt replacement light installed. You can get the CREE replacement light from this site: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1447 This unit fits both the 6P and G2. To fit to the G2 put the large end of the spring next to the reflector and the small end towards the body of the light. They are extremely bright and well focused. For the price of the G2 and CREE LED (about $60) you can have a very bright self defense light. Diamondback A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45!! ![]() NRA Member |

E1E with surefires LED upgrade, carry it everyday regardless of what else I have on me. Also have X200 light on my G17 for house defense, and a 6 cell maglight in my trunk for roadside assist (along with reloads and a BUG). I also have spare 123 cells for the E1E in the trunk as well. That deal extreme LED upgrade better than surefires LED upgrade? |

I always carry a surefire as well. Typically my E2D, which has replaced my 6P as EDC. The executive series make for great everyday pocket carry. (Was carrying my 6P regularly again earlier this summer while I was in Europe, as I didn't want to risk the E2D with its "strike bezel" causing any trouble at the airport.) |

E2D is in my carry pack. http://www.surefire.com/surefire/content/e2d_large.jpg |
From what I can find out the Dealextreme unit is somewhere between 140 to 200 lumens. There's no definitive figures that I can find but other users have come up with those figures in different posts. It is extremely bright and has a well focused beam. At $11.00 to $12.50 they're cheap enough to try one. |
) and/or an Inova X30 (GREAT 3 watt LED imo...)
