I am coming to the dark side finally, after a Steyr M9-A1, CZ-75 SP-01, FNP-45, CZ-82s, CZ Kadet, Kimber 1911, and a P-64, it is time for a Glock. My current collection is more towards the unique rather than the common end of handguns, as the Glock has to be the most common pistol out there, in my opinion, and I am sure there is a statistic someplace to show that too.
I have held a few Glocks, mostly at shows, shot one or two and I find the grips to be horrific, that is why I have waited so long to get one, and I cant say it enough, while I respect Glocks, they are the most uncomfortable pistol I have every held, I would rather hold dog crap than a Glock pistol grip. But I was at the range the other day and another guy there had a Glock 34, and he shared my feelings on Glock grips but showed me his with a Hogue grip on it, and man was it so much better, not perfect but so much better. Since I have been thinking about getting one for awhile now I figure this is a good reason to get one. I like how Glocks point, I like the looks, the options, the low cost mags, and the fact that every manufacturer makes a Glock holster. I have already decided that I want a 9mm, as I have a bunch of that and that is what my wife and I enjoy shooting, regardless of what other calibers are better or worse depending on what you opinion is. I have no use for a sub compact because I live in MD, we are not allowed to carry, ever… I like to put lights on my guns, and I plan to get a Gen 3, the updates on the Gen 4 don’t really seem worthwhile. I also just bought a Trijicon Red Dot (MS03) 8MOA dot, that I want to send to Bowie Tactical to have milled into the slide and then have the rear sight put behind that. So the questions comes down to a G17 or a G19 or maybe a G34? I will likely get trigger work done to it, add a light, replace the sights with fiber optics, add the red dot, add a suppressor and get a holster for it. Leaning towards the G19 for the reason of looks, and leaning towards the G17 for all around usefulness. Can anyone share some pictures of this kind of a set up too? |

Regardless what you are going to do or add to your pistol, I recommend holding a 19 because the grip is very different from the 17/34. You stated that with the hogue it was almost perfect..the 19 is shorter and the hump is in a different spot. I have Med sized hands and I don't like the 19/23 grip all that much.
I like my 17 and loved my 35...I am in a small group that actually installed the grip force adapter and found it to make my 17 grip so much better for me. |
I thought in the land of AR15s and hanging more shit off your FF tube to make a 30lb AR cool, I would get less crap about adding things to a Glock...
I am looking for a suppressor host, I dont have a suppressor, and I dont plan to have one for awhile after I get the Glock, so the only imediate changes (mods) would be to send it out to be milled for the Red Dot, as this is one of the other main goals of getting a Glock, because most of my other pistols do not have enought realestate on top to mount a red dot unless it hangs off either side. And I figure while it is at the gun smith he can clean up the trigger a little, not a 3lb match trigger but just make sure the surfaces are deburred and polished for a clean break. And if I put the Red Dot on it, then the rear sight will need to be replaced. Finally a light is not a mod, it is a temporary attachment. I dont think it is that much, better than Gold Inlaid slides... |
