Designed by Larry Vickers (or maybe Ken Hackathorn?)
Range: 10 yards
Target: B-8 repair center
Rounds: 10
Start Position: low ready
Par time: 10 seconds

At start signal, fire 10 shots.  Goal is all 10 shots in the black, within par time of 10 seconds

You can have shots outside the black, but each one adds 1 second to overall time.

Mr. Vickers explains:

The Test: 10,10,10 - Master Class Ep. 07 featuring Larry Vickers

G19 w/ optic (what I carry every day):

8.21, + 1 sec for that pulled shot, = 9.21. (93pts)
Need to call Grandpa Munster for more tooth skin!

Tried it with a G26 w/ irons, got 8.86, but 2 outside the black, puts me at 10.86.  (90pts)

I added up the points, because one variation of this is, Ken Hackathorn, calling it the "10-10-10", requires a score of 90, under par, to pass.

So a couple ways to look at it.

Update:  so far, participating, we've got

HA! No, I'd just run it with one of the McCormick or Wilson 10 rounders I used to run in my 1911s.

Just did this today actually or at least the drill I know as 10-10-10. From the holster did a 100 in 6.64.

Cool drill, I'll try and run it this week as I got a bunch of B8's.

Probably have to buy a new 9v for the shot timer.

Ran it four times like last time.
I think I added the points up wrong on a couple, but I think they would still be a pass.

Shot it 3 consecutive times with 3 different pistols.  7 minute video below.  Fast forward to 1:30 for the shooting part.

That is very innovative, with the primer tray.  I think I might adopt that.

You guys doing it from the holster, kudos to ya.  Above & beyond.  Most all pistol work I do is either from concealment or a retention holster.

Last try.  Stepped on the gas a little, got a miss though.

I could probably do sub 4.25 clean with more reps.  Gotta work on other stuff.

Fun drill though

In the real world, the 4.42 with one round a half inch low is far better than 6+ seconds.

Nice shooting.

Awesome shooting! I always thought they were supposed to all be in the x/10, 9's were -1?  Guess that would be 10-10-10-10

No idea, I didn’t watch the video.  I thought in the black was good enough, but then again the 10 ring makes sense if you’re going for 100 points.

Shrug.  My discipline stresses accuracy at speed, but not that much.

I’ll get at this one next week!

Thanks for the tag!

In all honesty after our last monthly drill stopped, I kind of faded away from ARFCOM.

I kind of like the idea of a gun board that promotes shooting!

Will try this on Tuesday range day with my son.

He will beat me with his G45 w/optic against my G17 with irons
and 63 year old eyes but it will be fun anyway.

He's faster than me no matter what he's shooting.

I tried to drill today completely cold. One try.

Failed.

It has been a rough year. I didn’t do much shooting last year. I had seven concussions since March. The worst thing? No cool stories!

I was able to run one Cola Warrior at the end of the year. Oldest guy there came in seventh.  About the time I got my head feeling better. I got a horrific bowling injury! I went bowling with my granddaughters. It’s the first I’ve bowled in approximately 35 years! I sprained my middle finger! It still makes me wince to grab things!

No excuses! We should be able to perform at any time anywhere…

Here’s the ugly…

I’ll give it a shot again! Hopefully my hand will soon he’ll heal up

Had 3 warm ups with my G44 .22 w/ irons, but this was the first rounds fired from the 17L.

8.1 seconds from low-ready, 100/100

'The Test' was a lot of fun.

To conserve ammo / run more drills per session, is a 5rd in 5 seconds @ 10yd version valid?

Hell yeah dude!  Participation & learning is what it's all about.

Don't sell yourself short, the original version is just from low ready, not the holster.  And that was still a damn good cluster of shots.

No way would I ever be able to shoot this one cold, with a pass, after no live or dryfire for weeks.

@spydercomonkey, yeah, you can do whatever variations you want in practice, we all do that.

To me, one of the things that makes this drill challenging is that it IS 10 shots, not just 2 or 3.

I find it difficult to remain consistent throughout the process, delivering accurate hits while maintaining a cadence that'll get me under par.

It's like Pressburg's No Fail Pistol Drill: sure, go ahead, draw and hit the black once, or twice, at 25 yards.  But can you do it consistently, over and over, 10 times in a row, as fatigue and/or pressure sets in?  I've NEVER cleaned that one.

So drills like The Test, to me, evaluate (among other things) your "shooting stamina", so to speak, if that makes sense?

I’m pretty sure I know what my problem is, which this drill accentuates, I tighten my primary hand grip as I proceed through the drill.

I know what’s wrong, correcting it is the hard part!

Yeah I need to work on more consistency with my grip too.  Have gotten lazy with it.

Tonight as I dryfired, I also did several holding drills.

Plus I hope the March drill is posted early. I’ll be down in the Keys visiting my granddaughters for the month.

At the range today so I shot it again.

Pushing it more got some out of the black.  Still on paper.

Cranked hard on one and managed a sub 3 second one, but again, pretty ugly:

I would say my sweet spot on this one is low to high 4 second range where I could mindlessly repeat it.

If I had to guess:

1.85/1.6/.39

4 seconds flat or less.

(Don’t hold me to that, if that is the actual drill.
