| the Sig 230 and the Sig 232. I own a Sig 232 and love it. I recently saw the Sig 230. Now I couldn`t find any major differences between the two guns. I wanted to know what the differences are between them. |

There are really very few differences. The hammer return spring was added with the 232 and the grips were changed. But...(there is always that but isn't there) I have and have seen many transitional 230s that also have the hammer return spring. There seems to have been a period of time when they were making what was essentially a 232 but with the slide marked 230. My best guess is that in classic Tutonic fashion of Waste not, Want not they continued using the 230 slide until they were used up. |

Basically the 232 is an idiot proofed 230! If someone takes a 230 with a live round in the chamber and decocks it by lowering the hammer with their thumb (instead of using the decock lever), the hammer winds up resting on the firing pin. If this 230 is then dropped hard on the hammer, it can fire (the firing pin safety notwithstanding). The 232’s hammer return spring prevents this possibility. Sig_230: I could be wrong, but I’m thinking the 230 may have at some point had this spring added without a model number change. I’ve heard that the 232 was a modification of the 230 designed for some Japanese police force, though I don’t know what exactly this entailed. Maybe once this happened, Sig decided to totally replace the 230 with the 232. Just a guess, though. |
