I want to get a G17. Should I get it compensated or no? This will be a do-all gun, except for carry.

No for the C version... you don't need it on the 17. Unless of course you want a pretty "V" flame at night.

I was actually gonna get a Glock 23 just for kicks cause I don't have any compensated guns and our rangemaster advised not to, he said they are a pain to do night quals with - I took him at his word and didn't.

No, do you really have trouble with the recoil?  My girlfriend who had never shot a gun didn't think recoil was bad on a 19 her first time.

No, I would say it's unecessary on a G17 in 9mm.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but if I had a choice, I'd say no.

When you step up to a 10mm, you  might consider it but not for the 9mm.

If you're only go to use it at the range then why not get it compensated. You probably wont notice as much recoil difference though.

I say yes if you plan on keeping it.

No if you want to sell it easily one day. People just dont seem to like them as much.

This! I have a 20C. Helps tame muzzle flip and make follow up shots quicker. The 9mm does not need this. You could buy one for fun, and install a non ported barrel for carry use.

I have a normal G22 that I shoot often.  Last month I had a chance to put rounds through my cousins Compensated G22 and I really did not notice much of a difference in perceived recoil.  Maybe just me, but felt much like my g22.  Also, I shot it with the same ammo I normally use.

Got my Glock 20 SF today. Shot it with hot Double Taps. No need for a ported barrel. The only place I'd consider using a compensated glock is on a competition gun only.

I find it hard to believe all these people who voted no have ever shot a "C" model (or spent enough time to evaluate one).  I recently talked someone into buying a Glock.  When we went to the gun store the only 17 they had was a 17C.  I was against the "C" model (for all the typical reasons people who have not shoot one have) but told him he should get it because of the limited supply these days.  After shooting it I was 100% sold on it.  No, the 17 does not have much muzzle flip, but cut it in half (as the "C" model does) and you notice a huge difference.  You get back on target in about half the time.
I liked it so much I bought my own.  I have shoot it back to back with it's stock barrel and the (below) LW non-ported barrel and there is a big difference.  I have not shot it at night, but those who have say the flash from the ports in a NON-issue.

i dont even think it's really needed on the 10mm but it'd be cool to have on a 9mm if you were shooting alot of matches/competitions

I use a compensated 9mm Glock for competition, the lack of recoil certainly helps.
