Just picked up a Colt Python and under the Python word there are three letters
CTG. Like to know what they stand for I also noticed on a friends S&W .357 is marked with the same letters.

Thanks

Cartridge.

As in 357 Magnum Cartridge.  It doesn't have anything specifically to do with any model of firearm.

Is that kind of like .45            ACP?

The ACP for 45 ACP is Automatic Colt Pistol.  Or you could say Automatic Centerfire Pistol or even Automatic Cartridge Pistol.  But the most common is Automatic Colt Pistol especially for 45 ACP.

The whole line should read ".357 MAGNUM CTG"

and it's just Colt's way of saying is chambered in .357 Magnum.

ETA:  First, YOU MUST POST PICS!!
Second, you've got the finest revolver ever made.

Just found this at Cabelas in Texas and is really is in 98% condition. Not much of a wheel gun Man myself or a .357 mag shooter but saw this, well you know the rest. Really bling bling's my dark collection of guns. Might want a pair of Pachmayr black grips to go with...

Rob, CTG stands for "cartridge".  It's just an abriviation.  If they spelled it out it would be a lot of printing in the confined area.

NICE PIECE. You're going to let me shoot it, right??  I've got a 66-1 with a short barrel that kicks like a mule with the .357 mag cartridge.  I'd love to try a revolver with a bit more meat on it to tame that big boom.

Well...................The gun being some 25-30 years old and in this condition, I'd rather continue being a "keeper" of this gun rather than using this for target partice. I might shoot a few .38's down the pipe, but like my Liberator, I  just assume letting them collect dust.
