Picked up a current production Colt Gold Cup in 9mm to go with my 45. Will test it this weekend for function and accuracy with different ammo. Some things don't look great at all compared the the older 45. Not so good: Large blemish in (I assume) MIM grip safety. Horrible machining marks on inside of the slide. Trigger was 7.75 pounds! The 45 is just under 4lb's. Safety takes a fair amount of effort to engage. Feed ramp looks 'iffy'. Magazine has pins (?) in it that I have never seen in a magazine. The good: No slide to frame rattle, super tight right now. Front serrations are nice, none on the 45. Weight: 45 37.6oz 9mm 40.1oz I sent the 45 back to Colt years ago for something, forget what. They fixed whatever I sent it in for as well as made the trigger much better and added an arched main spring housing. With this 9mm should I leave it as is, send to Colt to fix/replace machine marks in slide and grip safety, or drop it off at Nelson Ford? Not crazy about spending more money of this. The grip safety is cast; the mag catch, mag catch lock, sear, and disconnector are the only MIM parts in Colt's 1911s. My most recent Colt settled into a 6.5lb trigger pull and it was not smooth, so it's off getting the ignition parts replaced now. Your feed ramp looks fine to me. The pins in the magazine hold in a spacer that keeps the cartridges forward. 1911s were designed for .45ACP/.38 Super length cartridges and the controlled round feed design is length dependent. Different manufacturers have different ways around this, some use a rib down the front of the body, others use a spacer. Nice to see your slide/frame fit is tight, my Colt's is not.

Nice pics. Made me dig out the 9mm Colt Competition stainless I bought last year and take a closer look at it. It looks ok. Some of what looks like machine marks inside the slide but I can't feel anything when I run a finger over them. Trigger breaks at a little over 4.5 lbs and is pretty smooth. I can live with it. The machine marks on the inside of your slide would bug me. Can you feel them if you run your finger over them or mostly cosmetic? |

Will see how it does tomorrow but prob going back or to Nelson Ford. I did get the trigger to 6'ish with some oil. Not the best way but it helped. Would rather be 4lb's or less. |

Beside me being out of practice and haven't shot since a righ arm tendon repair 2 months ago, this Colt shot pretty well. Had 2 failures to fully eject and a few bullet nose dives when trying to feed a round. Rounds looked tilted slightly downward in the magazine. Other than that it did pretty good with 115, 124, and 147gr rounds. Shot 300'ish rounds. Did have to add some oil half way in even though I thought I had plenty. Also the magwell is now a bit loose. The machine/tooling marks on the slide and the pitted cast grip safety would be completely unacceptable to me even on a $400 Tisas, much less a $1500 Colt.  Yet another vote here for sending it back to Colt for warranty work. They need to be held accountable and made to fix issues like this. I'd ask them to address the slide tooling marks, replace grip safety, and address the heavy trigger. The mags are fine and the feed ramp looks fine to me too, but if you're still concerned about it, do a bit more shooting to verify function before you send it back.  |

Got it back. They didnt do anything on the inside of the slide. Not crazy about it but it doesn't effect the function. They did replace the grip safety and improved the trigger. Attached File Attached File Swapped out the grips. Attached File |
