Well I have finally started carrying and while I love my Glock 19 I was looking at a small revolver for the FL summers. I have a growing interest in a 3 inch Ruger SP 101 in .357, what I'm wondering is there any other model out there thats is similar for around the same or less. Also I will probly trade my 4.5 inch Taurus towards it. Any knowlwdge or suggestions is welcome.

For around $400, you can look at either the Ruger SP101, the Ruger LCR, or a S&W J-frame in .38+P.  The SP101 is almost twice as heavy as the other two, though, but it can fire a .357 if need be, where the LCR is limited to .38 +P and the S&Ws in the same price range would be .38+P as well.  S&W has J-frames that can fire .357, but cost at least $200 more.

yeah thats why I'm leaning towards the Ruger I like the .357 and the little extra weight won't bother me.

The SP101 is not a pocket gun, if that is what you're looking for.

No I'm not looking for a pocket gun just something a little smaller than my 19 for when is gets warm around here. I have a 4inch large frame model 65 and was thinking of trading it off for something smaller, being that my had gun needs are mor focused on carry than target.

The model 65 S&W is a medium frame revolver(K frame specifically), and not significantly larger than the SP101. It may seem quite a bit larger, but if you ignore barrel length, and change the grip frame to round butt, there isn't much difference at all. I'll find the camera and take a pic of my 2.25" SP101 next to a 2.5" round butt K frame and a 3" 1911.

I presume you intend to holster carry the gun, so I recommend looking at the 3" version rather than the shorter 2.25".

I've pocket carried my SP101 on many occasions.  While it's not the best choice as a pocket revolver, it is possible, and it's not with a 2.5" K frame.  And yes, I've got both.  The difference in size isn't huge, but it's enough.  If you might need to pocket carry in a pinch, get the 2.25" SP101.  If it's a dedicated holster gun, get the K frame or a similar midsize 6 shot revolver.
