I have an XDM and a ton of other pistols. I've got a decent amount of experience in firearms and shoot monthly.  I'm not going to be on Top Shot but overall I am a reasonably knowledgeable gun owner and shooter.
That's why this is bothering me.  A friend of mine has the 5" XD in .40cal.  He was shooting Silver Bear and could not get the gun to cycle after a misfire.   He talked to me about it the next day and while he's a hunter he is not a regular handgun shooter and doesn't really know much about them.  All that I could get from him was that he could not rack the slide to rear and the trigger had been pulled (as shown by the striker indicator). There was a misfire still in the chamber.
My first thought was it was something wrong with the grip safety.   My next thought was that the Striker Retainer Pin was sticking out of the bottom of the slide and hanging up.
I never got to see the gun.
Anyway...he took it to a local smith that "Punched out some firing pin" (so sayeth my friend) got the round out and reassembled the gun.  The gunsmith blamed it on the ammo which they don't happen to carry.
So....other than the Striker Retainer Pin is there anything else that could keep the slide from being manually pulled to the rear?
I suspect that the gunsmith just tapped the Striker Retainer Pin back in and then blamed it on ammo that they don't sell.
