I upgraded an unknown brand mag with a CMC spring and follower. The new spring was way longer than a used spring in one of my shooting star mags with the same number of coils. After installing it in the mag it is now shorter, near the same length as that shooting star mag. Is it normal to permanently shorten the new CMC spring?

After I put the new spring and follower in the mag, I tried loading 8 rounds. It took considerably more force to load the mag and I couldn't get the last round in. I unloaded the mag by hand and the follower shot out with the last round. I checked the spring and follower and put them back in the mag. I loaded the mag again and force the 8th round in. I tapped the base of the mag in my palm and could hear there was more spring compression. I unloaded the mag and notice the rounds came out easier and the follower stayed put. I reloaded the mag and it loaded as easy as my other mags. I disassembled it and found the spring was shorter than before.

All new springs will take an initial set. Nothing wrong just the way it works.
