My father and I are in the process of building 2 1911's out of 80% frames.  He wants a .45acp where as I want to build a 9mm.  I've found slides, barrels, and ejectors all separate but I haven't found any kits for the conversion. I was wondering if there is any kits available. If not, I was wondering what you guys would recommend as far as parts for a 9mm build.

Thanks,
Kevin

I'm not sure what you mean by "Kits for the conversions".  Many (not all) 9mm 1911's use a ramped barrel and therefor must have the frame milled to accept it.    Even if you have a Non ramped barrel; there will likely need to be some fitting of the barrel to slide, the slide to the frame, bushing, barrel link and maybe a few other components to tun it into a safe functioning pistol.  It's not like an AR where you can drop a new upper on and go.  Don't let me discourage you...it can be done...it's just not a drop in operation.

Sarco offers kits that have everything you need exept a frame. I assume this is what he wants exept for a 9mm 1911.

I havent seen any kits to build a 9mm 1911, but then I wasnt really looking either .

Well, we have 2 full 1911 frames so thats why I said for the conversion.  I figured it wouldn't be all that difficult to do.

I really only wanted to do a conversion to 9mm because it would be cheaper and I don't see a reason if having two of the same pistols. Could anyone point me in a direction as to what work would actually need to be done? I've tried searching but can't find any blueprints or anything like that which actually gives dimensions of anything.  All I've found are really vague descriptions for what needs to be done.

no kits really available.
is the frame cut for a ramped barrel for the 9mm?
if not, the .45ACP frame ramp is at a different angle than a ramp for a 9mm.

Feed ramp for a 9mm/.38 frame is different than a standard .45 feed ramp. You guys might have better luck buying a frame from Caspian.

Well, the frame I'm going to be using is going to need to be cut either way. There is no ramp on it whatsoever. I've seen a picture for a 9mm barrel and it doesn't look like it would be all that tough to cut out the ramp for it.

Brownells gun bench will be of help as well.

EGW sells some helpfull 1911 tooling which may be needed as well.

For the 9mm 1911 frame you can do it 2 ways.  Feed ramp based for the 38 super.  Or get a ramped barrel but are 2 styles.  Nowlin style and I believe Clark style.  Could be wrong on the Clark.

What ever way you go Caspian can hook you up.  I had Caspian cut the frame for a Nowlin style barrel.

Best luck.  Remember if you can't find 9mm 1911 part look at 38 super side.  MidwayUSA and Brownell will be your friend.  Might as well leave the credit card out for the next few days or week.

3 different type of ramps the 3rd is a Para/Clark hybrid (sp), if your going to cut the frame yourself the Para/ Clark type is the easiest to do.
