My brother got a Springfield Champion Operator and all was well until he disassembled it. The first time he disassembled it he had no problems but when he did it a second time he left the magazine in, I don't know if this would do anything. The magazine was hard to get out but came out. But when he reassembled it, the slide was really stiff on the frame. As soon as the slide gets to the disconnector when putting the slide back on it gets really tight. The slide will cycle but it just takes a lot of effort and sometimes gets stuck. There isn't anything in the way of the slide moving that I can see. It was working fine before this and I can't figure out why this is happening. Anyone have any idea whats up? The slide stop is going all the way through, the rails were fine and the recoil spring was fine. I just felt like the thread needed some pictures height=8
He took the mag out before he took the slide off. Apparently he was going to take the slide off but once he got the slide stop out he realized the mag was still in. The issue seems to be fixed. We just lubed it up really well and cycled the slide a lot and it has gotten better. I think the main problem was there wasn't enough lubrication. I guess the guy he bought it from wiped it all off before he shipped it or something. |
If he removed it before he seperated the frame and slide he didn't hurt anything. It's sticking on the disconnector probably. [little nub that sticks up near the back of the frame in front of the hammer.] One of my SAs did the same thing, combo of weak spring [no way it was a 16" from the factory, more like a 12"] and a sharp edged disco grabbing on the numbers scribed on the slide bottom and the dish the disco rides in and out of. |
Yeah this sounds pretty much like the problem. I figured it was the diconnector because the slide would move freely until the back of the slide got to the disconnector. Now that its fixed that just means someone is shooting two 1911's on Sunday |
