| OK so I have a Springfield 1911A1 Custom that I bought used. It came some crappy old 7 round beat mag and i bought two of those 8 round competition mags(I think MEC-GAR is the company). Anyways, so just about every time I have gone to the range I have had at least one type of failure. When i fist bought it i had a stove pipe jam, the next time I had another one. Today was my third time shooting it and I had all sorts of issues. No stove pipe jams but many problems extracting fully.I have no idea what if anything (spring wise) has been changed but I would like to have to gain some input from those who are much "wiser" than I as to what to do here. I like the gun but these jams are unacceptable. I used for screwing around i have reliable factory ammo that I use. I have a glock that is my carry pistol and up to this point its with good reason I have it. I have had more issues with it than my glock, however I do enjoy the quality and accuracy of it using a man caliber. |

I'd try new mags - tripps, wilsons, or CMC powermags - and you might need a new extractor depending on how used it is and how long it's been since it was replaced etc etc. Oh and we need pics of your gun

If you're having failures to extract your extractor is out of tune. The extractors on the Brazilian made Springfields are pretty well known for crapping out early. I'd suggest a Wilson Combat Bullet Proof extractor. In the mean time - http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=289 |

| Well Actually I don't think I have cleaned it since i bought it. I may have lubed it when I FIRST got it. I have numerous gunsmith around me, but i dont know how good any of them are with 1911's. I was going to buy a new springs from Woffe springs and get a new Wilson extractor. I can put the recoil spring in but the rest I cant do. I may have been limp wristing it. I went from shooting my glock to it. I'll need to check that out. I am shooting ball ammo, its Winchester the white box crap. I have only put about 150 rounds through it since I have owned it. |
