I bought a gimmick called Derma-Grip for my Walther P99. The P99 has always fit my hand like a glove, but is a little slick. I have tried the Houge slip on thing, but it changed the shape of the grip and I didn't really care for it.
The Derma-Grip is like the heat shrink that electricians use with some sand mixed in (except the material is more like Kydex than rubber). You just slide it on your gun and heat it with a hair dryer. It follows every contour of your gun. You can even add something underneath if you want finger grooves or palm swells. You then trim the excess with a knife. It took me about 10 minuets. I didn't realize just how slick the grip was before. The gun is now rock solid in my hand and I may just be imagining things, but I think my accuracy increased as well. If you decide you don't like it you just cut it off with no permanent damage to you gun. I didn't have a good camera at home, but here is a photo I found online. If anyone shows any interest I could try to take some closeups of mine tonight.

It looks like these are marketed specifically for Walthers. Did the sleeve look big enough to work on a full size handgun, say a Glock 21? I would think so, but I can't be certain. It was big enough to slide on my HK45. I wouldn't think the 21 is much bigger than that. I don't think they are Walther specific. It's just a cylindrical tube. If it slides over your gun it will work. |

I haven't tried it, but the way the material shrinks tightly around the gun I don't see how whatever you put under the Dermagrip could move. Unless the grip of your gun is completely cylindrical like the handle of a baseball bat it is not going to move around. The material itself is almost like Kydex. If I cut it off of my gun all of the contours and finger grooves of the P99 would still be in it. I hope I sort of answered your question. |

One of the mods over at Walther forums thinks it is the actual shipping cost, as in how much the post office or UPS/Fedex will charge to mail you something that weighs a few ounces.
It's been a while since I ordered mine. If someone does buy one please let us all know. |

my Duty weapon is a G22rtf and I liked it enough to sell my glock 17 to replace it with a 17rtf.
I wish I could have done this and saved the $150 I lost in the trade! 
live and learn I guess. ETA: I shot my rtf better than my normal gen 3s. A good texture on the grip makes the gun a better shooter for me so I am sure this product could really make a big difference. |

I called S&W this morning. They told me they are unable to get this Walther part.
Maybe with more interest Earl would ship them USPS. Another option might be to mail him a postage paid envelope. Hell I don't know. It sucks he has to be a dick about shipping. Sorry guys. If anyone finds something similar please post it here. |

I talked to Earl today. He told me the reason he will only ship UPS is because the post office doesn't have have a good tracking and insurance system.
I asked him if he would entertain the idea of a guy mailing him a self addressed stamped envelope. He said if you send him $25 cash (no checks) in a padded envelope with a self addressed postage paid envelope he would gladly do it that way. He was pretty insistent it had to be cash. He also said he was out at the moment but expects more within a week or so. If I knew it was such a pain in the ass I probably would have just kept my mouth shut. I personally don't send cash through the mail, so I would pass on that deal, but if you feel comfortable with it by all means go ahead . In my personal opinion if I need another one I would probably just spend the $40, but I can't say the same if I had never seen the thing. Personally, I wish someone else would come up with a similar product without the bullshit of getting a hold of it. |

I wish I knew where he gets them or another source. that guy is full of crap. i'm a shipping clerk at my workplace and use a UPS shipping program all day. the lightest thing i've shipped so far UPS ground has been less than a pound (usually paperwork in an 15x11x1 envelope is less than $10 bucks, across the country. now if your next day air shipping it gets pricey, but normal ground for something that small should be around $4-$8 max. if they are shipping in a box with a lot of packing material then that will up the price too. usually a 8x8x10 box will ship for right around $10-$15 depending on the weight. they are probably just using the UPS website and printing the labels from a desktop, using a box that's too big and saying it weighs more than it does. if they are charging a $15 minimum on something that light, they are making probably $14 profit from the shipping. i would look for another distributor who isn't going to hose you on shipping. |
