You're sitting in your vehicle in stop-and-go traffic in the far right lane. You see a car wanting to merge into the traffic from a parking lot. Then you notice a sticker on the car. Would you yield and let the vehicle enter traffic?

a boltface sticker?

edit:  apparently, I beat the poll...

you mean an Obama sticker? If I was on the fence between allowing them to merge or not, the Obama sticker would probably push it over into "not". But I try to allow people to merge in that situation in general.

I always let people merge.  It's rude not to.  I know that I'd really appreciate if someone let me merge, so I try to do what I know I'd want.  It's just common courtesy.

However, I MIGHT not make an opening if the person had an Obama sticker, or some such thing.

That's pretty much my attitude as well - unless something in their driving style makes me think they are an asshole.  I don't really put too much stock in stickers.

I generally always let people merge.

In stop and go traffic, I usually let a few people now and then merge in front of me.  When driving at full highway speed, I don't bother.  It's not my job to get out of the way.

Same with exiting a highway.  If I'm on an access road, I yield to exiting cars (as you're supposed to).  When exiting, I don't yield to anyone.

I let everyone merge if they meet the following conditions:

  • The person isn't driving like an asshole.

  • Letting the person merge won't seriously inconvenience me.
