A few of them are actually hot.  Look up Gina Carano, she is supposed to have a big fight with some Eastern Euro-shemale thing at some point in the near future.

Whenever Gina fought on EliteXC I would watch.

I would definitely watch a "womens" UFC league as long as the women were reasonably good looking.  But that's the problem with all womens sports.  Once the hardcore atheletes, who tend to be sub-par on the attractivness take over, fans (who are primarily male) lose interest.  Watching women fight is like watching any other women's sport then, junior varsity to the men's sports.

If you're talking about Cyborg Santos, she's not that bad looking imo.  Not pretty, but I'd watch that fight.  Probably be a good one, and Gina will more than likely lose.

The part about having a fighter come up from like 130 to fight a fighter trying desperately and failing miserably to come down from 165+ makes me cringe.   A very transparent attempt at a pro-wrestling style "put over" by that organization.

I think it's interesting that Santos and Carano are trying to fight at 145. Neither one will make weight (exaggeration, Carano will, but it might be close)...

There is not enough depth of talent to really worry about weight classes, short of 50-100 differences.  Let them get into whatever fighting shape/size they want and let them go.   Worked pretty well in the initial UFCs.

If Carano loses it will be bad for womens MMA.

There are lots of reasons to worry about weightclasses. People are already squeamish about MMA, womens MMA in paticular.  Watching a 165er demolish a girl who's trying to come up from 120 for a payday not going to do womens MMA any favors outside of giving the rednecks something to pull their puds too. Just makes state athletic comissions push different rule sets on women.

Ask the promoter.  Like Anna hinted it might be a push attempt in Caranos favor, particularly if Santos has to drop 20-30 pounds.  Santos winning would be bad, Carano is far more marketable.

Thought that was funny, too.  Probably because if they fought at their walk weights it would be harder to trick 135ers into coming up "just 10 pounds".

Didn't Carano fail to make weight at 145?  Your hinting Santos is around the 165 mark, a "Catch" weight makes sense.  A massive weight dump requirement screams push.

They're both going to have to drop serious weight to make 145.  Problem is that the talent pool gets shallow starting at 145 and drops off dramatically.  Personally am trying to leep weight around 140 and open up the 135-145 spread. I came down from 165~, rigged my diet to burn off muscle as well as fat due to the available fights above 145 being even thinner when I first started fighting.

The drop off in talent makes sense, but Carano is just about the only very well-known female fighter... She's the kind of fighter that it makes sense, from a business perspective, to make/bend the rules for. Kind of like the UFC letting Lesnar fight at "265" when in reality he's entering the octagon at 280+. So why not a higher weight division? Like a 145-165 heavyweight division?

ETA: Or just have her fight at a catch weight every fight. Where the sport is now, it makes more sense to draw viewers than to be really strict about weight classes.

Water is a lot of it, fight weight is alaways a few pounds heavier even in the 145 range.  265 lean weight probably means 275 fight weight.  When a fighter goes for weigh in they are often dehydrated, have not eaten, and depending on the closeness they may very well have had an enema done.

Like I said depends on the margin.  If it means missing out on a big payday after extended training, you'd do it too.  I even been told sometimes you have a spit cup so as to not swallow saliva.  You'd be surprised what people come up with.

I've used laxitives.  I've never quit felt confident that I'd get all the water out if I did an enema.

Diet
Laxatives
Sweat suit
Sweat-Suit +Sauna

Thats my order of prefered ways to cut weight.

I've also done the spit in a cup thing over the course of an 18  hour drive to a venue but really I only managed to spit about  12 ounces though, I filled up a little cup.

The pool of women MMA fighters just isn't as close to that of the men to start a full fledged competitive fighting league.

Look at this thread, as you see weight class problems of cutting and gaining to fight evenly matched etc.

Hopefully, with the continued boost in MMA's popularity, the few televised female fights and purses paid will continue to get more frequent and better.
