Youtube shows unscrewing the body counter clockwise (Moen Montecillo) then getting to
replace the cartridge;
however with big channel locks it still won't turn; ring on top of
lavatory turns, but that's not what holds it together;

any thoughts on getting this off? I put a piece of sheet rubber on the jaws but still
scratched the chrome; will spray w/vinegar & try again after about an hour

any help?

not sure how old yours is.
moen but not the same model.
that chrome barrel on mine was plastic. I was able to deform it while turning and it broke it loose.
used a toilet paper roll to cover it, and giant channel locks.

the vingear idea might help.

(ETA: Sorry, I can't get the links to work--try pasting into your browser)

The title of this thread ran chills through me.

A few months ago I had to deal with the Stuck Shower Diverter from Hell. It was a Moen.

Before you do anything else, identify the specific faucet and go to the Moen website and look at the exploded diagram for it.

Good place to start is http://www.moen.com/replacement-parts

Look at their instructions also, e.g., http://www.moen.com/consumer-support/installation-help/tutorial?id=moen0133

Look at the diagram, e.g., (http://www.moen.com/replacement-parts/product?product=IMGLIB:4903BC), and be sure you understand how it should come apart. That may or may not solve the problem but you will be confident about whether it *should* come out. If it should come out but is stuck, do a search for Moen cartridge removal tools. Also look at youtube videos on the topic.

If the issue is lime buildup, use something a *lot* stronger than vinegar, e.g., Lime Away, CLR, etc.

I ended up having to drill and chisel the damn thing out chunk by chunk and it sucked the big one. Hopefully your faucet will be far easier.

BTW, don't be shy about calling the Moen support line. I was highly impressed with them when they called. I was ordering replacement parts and made it very clear to them that the diverter cartridge was *not* defective because of anything they did and they still sent me a new one for only the cost of the expedited delivery. I will curse stuck Moen cartridges for the rest of my life but I will also speak very highly of their support.

where you at? you can come on down to Bastrop & do mine; been soaking in CLR all day,
probably have to ruin it, but so long as I can get replacement parts for the top part, oh well,,,,,

What model of cartridge do you have?

I don't know if it applies to your faucet (I had a stuck shower diverter, not a faucet) but  one thing that I had partial success with was threading the inside of the cartridge, putting a bolt in there, and cranking on it. Sometimes that will get the whole thing out but not in my case.

This shows the process.

ETA:
The same guy made a followup video where he threaded the cartridge and used a socket to create a puller. I did that too but it ended up stripping the threads out. Good idea, though.
