Example, they used the theroy that every action has and opisite and equal reaction to disprove the shooting a gun out of someones hand, They just Mounted a second handle perpendicular on a pistol and fired it and assummed that the recoil would equal the ammount a force that the round hitting it would produce.... Dose that make sence to anyone? |

Does that make sence? eta: The problem with Mythbusters is that they know ahead of time that they will only work for eight months of the year, so Adam, Jamie, and the rest of the crew do the annual march down to the unemployment office each year to get their handout checks. Oh, they pay their own way. I guess I was thinking of someone else that does that. |

I get what you are saying. Yes a lot of what they do is not very scientific. Take when they were shooting in the pool. The bullets just disintegrated. So they declared that if you were such and such a distance under the surface a bullet could do no harm. Therefore the bullets killing soldiers underwater at Normandy was Hollywood.
Well we all know that a bullet fired a few feet from the water is going to have more velocity and energy than a bullet that has traveled several hundred yards as they did at Normandy. Those bullets didn't just disintegrate there because of the lost velocity and energy. They would hold together better. They still would only go so far but it would be farther than their poorly thought out test. They have done other tests that didn't take into account lost velocity and energy. The sniper shot through a scope. |

They did one many years ago about how bullets do not spark when they hit the ground.

But they I imagine they will often have an off screen advisor helping them out. Then the on screen personalities will present. It's not just guns either. But imagine how many commercial vehicle collision experts there are vs. firearm owners. So you just catch the firearm myths more often.

| All I know is shows from this year where they have firearms are MUCH better than they were 5 years ago or so when the show started. I think back then they stated they had to go out and borrow a shotgun and nobody knew how to use it. At least now they look like they can handle and shoot a firearm. The narration is "off" sometimes. Tonights show she said she was shooting an M1 Garand the narrater called it an M-14 assault rifle. I couldn't see the TV when they were talking. |

The show isn't about rigor. It's not even about getting the right answer.
It's about being entertaining and, without anyone intending it to be or noticing that it is, incredibly educational. Mythbusters has done more to popularize the idea of the scientific method among American children and adults, then all the Bill Nye's and Beakmens put together. It's a show about smart people who use science to do really cool things and answer really funny questions. It's something that kids watch and want to be apart of. Getting the right results is a total non issue, although I'd wager they are on the mark more often then not. If I have any complaint about the show, it's that it's not long enough. |
