I'd like to chop some mp3 files for ringtones.  Anybody know of a free program that will allow me to cut a segment out to load onto my phone.

Check out Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ -- I donno if this is the easiest way but it works for me and it's free, quality software.

Check out Myxertones.com You can use the tones they already have or they have a web interface you can use to make tones out of your own music. It is totally free and I have never gotten one piece of spam or junk from them. The biggest plus for me is it allows me to bypass the stupid Verizon lockdowns and get tones without having to pay a dime.

ETA: No, I am not affiliated with them in any way, just a happy user of their services.

Check out Audacity.   It should do what you need (and a lot more).
