Is there any easy way to increase the range for my laptops internal card?  Where it stands now I can only get the wireless network in my area if the snow on the ground bounces the signal juuuuust right

You can change the settings for the card (go to device manager and right click on the card).  You'll want to turn off any power saving scheme, turn the power to max, basically look through the settings and adjust them to maximize performance.  What wifi signal are you picking up, one from a home router?  If so, get some higher gain antennae for the router/access point.

already turned off the power save. The roam setting has three options: Agressive, moderate, conservative. I'm guessing what I want is agressive? Also The place I try to access it is the upstairs.

Setting roaming to aggressive may actually cause more problems, it just means it'll seek out more wifi connections more frequently.

ETA:  For a long term solution you'll have to buy a PCMCIA or PCIE card with an external antenna connection.
