I am currently carrying a glock30 and love it. I stopped by my local ffl today and was handling a walther p99. this thing fit my hand like no other pistol i've ever picked up.
Here's my question. Should i stick with the glock30 or go for the walther. I feel accuracy with the walther will be significantly better, but hate to step down from my trusty .45acp to 9mm.

Any thoughts?

Unlike wives, guns don't get upset if you bring another one home. I say lay it away and start skipping lunch!

You can get the Walther in .40 as well.  It's not that much of a step down that way.

If you can, try shooting the Walther... if you can shoot better with it I think it would be a better choice as a carry weapon. I have shot the 9mm & .40 S&W versions - I liked them both!

i reload and .40 is not an option for me. i've heard to many problems with reloading .40 with used brass. I shoot alot and new ammo would break me. that's why if i got p99 it would be the 9mm.

Go ahead and get the Walther P99. Your Glock wouldn't mind.

Yesterday you bad mouthed my beloved M1A and now you are starting on the 40 S&W cartridge. You are really busting my balls Mike! I shoot thousands of 40's each year through either an HK USP or my Glock 23 and have never had a problem, even loading on the hot side. I have reloaded cases as much as 6 times but as I work at a range I'm reloading only 4 times now due to the availability. This is not to say that there is any thing wrong with a 9mm though.

while i agree with the just buy it theory the wife doesn't [:)]
She already told me i could buy a ferrett soon as i get the funds saved up. so if i buy the walther the glock would have to go on trade. [:(]

Tomorrow i'll start talking about your mamma [:)]
I think the ballistics are good on the .40. it just personally scares me as a reload. I can't tell you how much deformed .40 brass i see around the range. Guess i'm just paranoid. Plus the vast experience i have with shooting .40's <2 times> i couldn't hit crap. The recoil seems sharp for the guns.

If it was any other pistol, I'd say go for it.. but you stated you "love the G30." Why in the hell would ya wanna get rid of it?? I wouldn't.. In case you are serious, I'm in the market for a G30 [:D] but have a lead on one locally. If you really want the Walther, sweet talk the better half and save for it to keep the G30 company.

there are 2 things on the 30 i don't like. No lead reloads. And i just found out the slide lock spring is VERY prone to breakage. This i found out on GT and confirmed with glock. I find that scary for a carry peice. Not to mention the talk of KB's on 30's over the last few months and reports of cracked frames.
the 30 also fits my hand well and conceals VERY well for me. Am i getting paranoid?

As for reloading 40  S&W, Glocks have virtually no support at the breech. Sometimes you can get a bulge there. Also your die might not resize all the way down, so the buldge might not be put back to specs.

Man if it fits get it thats the thing youreally need out of your gun, any gun will shoot but how much do you like yours?

I like the P-99s I had one in 40S&W don't like 40 but love the gun.
And hell if you don't like it you will have no trouble getting rid of it.

I have reloaded many thousands of 40's and with no ill effect. The last batch I did was hot to say the least and still no problem.
As far as the gun thing goes, I posted it once before. If the Glock grip doesn't feel right than you can get the grip reduced. I wouldn't switch the gun you use the most. Just buy the other one to play with.

What the hell is a ferret???

You're not talking about one of those little weasel things are you???

But anyway, I have a three 9s (Hi Power, Taurus PT-92, and Ruger P89). I love all three of them and they are all very reliable. But on the other hand,,, my favorite is my HK USP40. It feels good and shoots great. I, unlike others, like the trigger pull and think the recoil is acceptable.

I have had some problems with reloads in the USP though. I originally thought it was the gun but then I changed over to factory loads for a while and the operation was flawless. I found a different source for reloads after that.

I still think the 40 is a equivelent round to either the 9 or 45,,, maybe even superior. It's certainly good enough to do the job anyway.

no no no no no!
The ferret is staying on the scene. My question is, what advantage if any is there with the walthar over the glock?

Ask your wife if you can have your balls back.[:D] Whatever she says, keep the Glock. No sense in getting rid of a gun that you know you like for one that you might like better.

I don't get it- you can only shoot the ferret once, you can shoot the other two for years and years [:D]

Gunmonkey,
I would ask her but i'm afraid she would kick my ass [:)]. Naaa she'd go for it but i just can't justify it right now. I've just carried a .45 for so long i don't know if i will be comfortable with the 40 or 9mm.
