| Never seen the series but got the box set, is it any good? |

It is spot-on for the 2003 invasion. Might as well be a documentary of sorts.
From MOPP suits to complete retards in the Chain of Command ruining the deployment for hard-chargers, the big picture Blitzkrieg concept of the operation, down to finding living quarters in abandoned buildings in Baghdad, it is an excellent series for anyone wanting to get an insight into some of the units' general experience of the OIF1 invasion. |

Sgt Brad 'Iceman' Colbert: [on the radio] I don't copy, Hitman 2-3. I don't copy a word you're saying. [annoyed] Every time Batista gets excited, his English goes out the fucking window.
Corporal Josh Ray Person: I mean, he's not even a citizen. He snuck in from whatever fucking greaseball fucking country he's from and now he's a Marine. You know, there ought to be at least some kind of grammar test before you're off here blowing shit up with heavy weapons. Sergeant Brad 'Iceman' Colbert: If they did that, fucking buck-tooth cross-eyed sister-fucking hicks like you wouldn't get in either. [Josh grins] |

Lame.
Expected more of a band of brothers type show, turned out to be to much like reality
Hurry up and wait, dumb fucking orders, and jackasses who were more concerned with meaningless shit than what they should have been. Just showed what a clusterfuck the mil is. Like I said, reality. Eta, although ziggy and Eric seemed too much like people I know and work with. |

Read the book, which is entertaining as hell, but written from the perspective of a guy that writes for Rolling Stone magazine. Take that for what you will.
Good friend of mine was with 1st Recon Bn when Evan Wright was there during the initial push into Iraq, upon which "Generation Kill" is based. When he EAS'd, he went on to work for BW. He was still in the lo-pro security line of work in A-Stan, the last time we exchanged emails last year (BW lost that bid, but he was working for the company that picked up BW's previous contract). He personally knew just about all the main characters in the book (some were "invented", based upon the consolidation of a few real-life Marines in order to condense the text). There's an element of truth to it all, but mixed in with a lot of bullshit which makes some of what's said in the story line either taken out of context, or totally misrepresented. The series is based upon the narrative of the author, which is why I never bothered to watch it. No doubt Hollyweird fucked it up that much worse. |

YES! FPNI!! "Has anyone seen my picture of my girlfriend?" Bahahaha Your girlfriends kind of a whore. .. excellent series! So many hysterical moments! If nothing else it's worth watching for the scene where the Lt. Is interrogating the villager while his marines provide a running commentary Eta: beat by a damn minute on the quote. |

It was well done, but relentlessly negative. Absolutely everything is shown in the worst light possible. Example: Click To View Spoiler Overall I enjoyed it. |
