Is the logitech version worth ~$100 or are the knockoffs just as good?
Have a cable box, network bluray player, tv and speakers all with separate remote controls. |

I have a Logitech, I think it's a 550, Worth every penny.
You set it up on your computer ( little tricky but not bad ) and it loads these macros into it that makes it work like the native remote for each device you use and still work with the other things needed for that action. Say you want to watch a Blueray vid, hit the button for that and it turns on your blueray, sets the TV for that input and turns your surround sound on ( if you set it up for that ), you then have controll of the blueray player and the volume for the TV/home stereo without having to do anything else as far as button pushing. When you are ready to go back to Cable, hit that button and it does it all again, so one remote does everything. It just fucking works. |

I have had a 880 for years and love it. I also got the 1100 last year for my game room.
The beauty of the Harmony remotes is how easy they are to program. I had several programmable universal remotes years ago when I was more into AV and they were always such a pain in the ass to program. |

I've programmed a bunch of Logitech Harmony 1100's and I'm not impressed with their programming set up. I also don't like that they don't use discreet codes. IOW they assume that they are the only remote controlling things and if you leave the satellite receiver on accidentally, the next time you hit Activity TV, they will turn it off and then have the gall to ask you if it did things right and make you push a few more buttons until it does? WTF? If you want fancy, I recommend one of these. They aren't cheap (way less than a Crestron though), but you can program them to do exactly what you want every time. You can control not just the media center, but the music, the lights... whatever you are set up for. http://www.universalremote.com/products/residential/remotes/mx-6000 |

WTF? You need to set it up correctly. You can program discreet codes yourself in to the 1100. Why would you turn the sat receiver off anyway? My problem with Logitechs is that they are not fully customizable. I have sold a couple different customers my Phillips Pronto Pro's after demoing them and regret every second of it (the tsu9300 was arguably my favorite do to the comfort). However, for a homeowner, the Logitech is the easiest way to not only consolidate remotes, but to make a much more pleasant viewing experience for the family. To the OP, they are worth every penny. |
