I am looking to get at least a 500 gig external hard drive to back up my computer with and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions to give to me.
What brands are good and bad, yadda yadda. |

I have a couple cavalry drives I got on sale a few years ago all my other externals are ones I put together by buying and enclosure and a regular 3.5in drive, or in the case of my portable one a 2.5in laptop drive How do you hook that up? I take it not by usb? |

You can get a cheapo USB only case off newegg for $10 or less. |

| I took the HD out of a broken laptop, bought an enclosure kit off ebay (kit comes with metal housing, and Y ended USB cable so it powers itself. You can use 2 usb ports on the computer if necessary for power and transfer). It cost me all of $5 for the kit. I just formatted the old HD and now my new laptop sees it as a 250gb drive. No OS or anything left on it. |
