Situation: I've been dating the same girl for about a year and a half now. I'm finishing up my junior year of college, she's finishing her sophomore year. Problem: There is basically no future in this relationship as far as I see it. Even after she finishes undergrad, she's got no desire to follow my ass around from base to base until at least after she moves home for her MBA. On my end, I'm going active duty as a military officer on graduation. My branch has no basing options anywhere near where she wants to go to school, even if I was willing to take that into consideration. A couple of my buddies have made the point that if its gonna fail anyway, better for both to break it off now. She's cute, nice, forgiving of my bullshit and tolerant of my politics and shooting, despite being a leftist herself. She's also "borderline scary" attached--and I'm not a fan of that. I wouldn't mind much if I was single tomorrow, but either way I don't want a bad breakup on my conscience. Further complicating things, I've got the urge to get out and find some cute girl just to prove I can still get good pie outside a relationship, and I've got the "cute girl from down the street" basically throwing herself at me (if I hit it, there's no doubt the GF will find out though). So what do I do Arfcom? STFU and be a good boyfriend until the if not inevitable then at least highly probable crash? ( She's a nice girl and never did anything to deserve anything less) Go out and tag some random pie, and at least maintain the hope she doesn't find out (area code/state rule in effect?)? Break it off by phone, suck it up, drive on and try to get as much different good pie as possible? Note: Just cause I'm asking for hivemind advice, does not mean I will necessarily follow it |
nah... best friend's a vocal dirty hippy ( I think I remember posting a thread about banning her from my car on here over a year ago) and that would necessitate at least the appearance of staying together till next semester... Which means alot of passed up summer furlough pie

Lay it out just like you did here, leave the pie down the street part out though. She'll either freak and hate you ( problem solved ) or understand and you'll have a friend with " benefits " until you go AD and a possible relationship down the road when your ready. Why lie when it works out for you either way. |

This is why you are asking the question. Do the girl a favor and say goodbye now, like a gentleman. |

This is the quote that intrigues me: how far would you go (sell your soul) to prevent that. All break-ups are in some way bad, otherwise they wouldn’t happen. ETA: I feel this thread will in a small way expose how far down the drain the American man (as felt as being the 'common denominator' of society) has gone. |
