| I am looking into getting into corvettes. Especially the c5's due to price and having already owned a ls1 in my old GTO and liking the engine. Is there an equivalent of ar15.com for vettes? |

either corvetteforums or ls1tech thanks, I'll check both out. Is one better for talking about mods and performance versus the usualy bs vette talk? I am a C5 guy, and frequent the corvette forum, one of the first places i go actually. I bought my first corvette last year, a 2001 Z, and couldn't be happier. I think C5's are a terrific buy right now, so much performance for the money. Good luck in your search. |

I too was looking at them and now that my truck is having issues it sure would be nice to have a third car. How is the handling for a long drive? I have driven c5's before but only around town. |

The longest trip I have taken is probably about 40 miles round trip, so I could not clue you in on that. I believe the Z06 has a little stiffer suspension than the regular car does, but i have never driven the regular version. I think the ride is great considering how well this car handles, with the right tires it can pull 1g on the skid pad, and imo the only time you are reminded of the cars capabilities in a negative way would be on really bad streets. The other thing that sticks in my head as far as a difference from earlier models would be that it has NO squeaks and rattles, i was really surprised about that, of course that may have something to do with the Z being a fixed roof. |

thanks for the info. It won't probably be until next year until I get one. I used to ride street bikes and I don't do that anymore due to the other bad drivers out there so the vette would be the next best thing for me. Good luck in your search, just a bit of info, you can usually save yourself a little money buying one at the end of the season. I really see this trend on ebay, the cars have more bids, and go for more money in the spring than in the fall, my opinion anyway. |

Most people up north probably don't use them when it's cold out. |

I drove my old C5 from the DC area to basically the Indiana/Illinois border last year. About 1400 mile round trip. No problem at all. It was a blast ripping through the mountain highways in WV. Only reason I took it on that trip was because the 6 speed makes it get better highway gas mileage than my 04 Ford Focus

That is one of the main reasons I would like to get one is to take it around the back roads going to cities I have been wanting to visit. |

I have a 2002 Z06 myself. My only vehicle. Awesome ride imo, great buy still right now. C6s can be had pretty cheap too. I just drove mine on about a 6-7 hour round trip from Atlanta to Gatlinburg and back taking a detour to rip it up and down the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. Now that was some fun stuff. Car is fine on long drives, the girlfriend and I love it. Daily driving is fine too, my commute is the highlight of my day. :) |

I too was looking for a C5 a little over a year ago(search 3 months) but found a very nice deal on a 2007 Z51 6mn 3lt
one owner, bought that instead and could not be happier. Zero problems. Most comfortable car I have ever driven on long trips. I have learned a lot from Corvette Forum and is now my #1 site that I go to for info on Vettes. I am now keeping an eye out for a C5 for a daily driver and to mod. The buying season is here just figure what you want to do with it and don't rush into buying. |

i prefer ls1tech myself corvette forums is not as much of a wrench turner's website and they let advertisers post inline with the discussion. sometimes it seems there are more threads by people trying to sell stuff than people trying to learn stuff. This is what chaps my ass about the site. It gets spammed all day long by paying vendors, in every forum. It's not just limited to the classifieds section. It's the entire forum. If you have a complaint or a gripe about them, your comment or thread will be deleted and you will get banned. There are a few smart guys on that site, along with a few good shops/vendors... but much of it is retired old guys talking about wax and recapturing youth. I've actually seen threads posted to talk about how proud they were with their new chrome oil-fill cap purchase. Some of the people on that site are real pompous asses and are truly pathetic. LS1tech.com and yellowbullet.com are two good sites for LSx related tech info. That said... I too was shopping for a C5 when I stumbled on to my C6. I think you would be happier with a C6... not to mention, they are still producing the C6, so it would be almost as good as buying a new one. Which brings to mention... new isn't far out of reach either if you shop around. Kerbeck in AC NJ had a brand new 2013 C6 base for $41k at the Carlisle show. |

Your car is pretty much spot on what I would want to do to mine. Nice car. The c6 from what I hear has a great ride compared to the c5. That would be a plus for me becuase if it rode well I would use it to go to work some days. |

Here is a little more eye candy. Not the best picture of it. Taken on one of my drives on some of the farm market roads in central Texas. http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx249/Rocketman1976/25652990.jpg I am a big fan on black on chrome wheels. That's a sharp looking ride. |

I am a big fan on black on chrome wheels. That's a sharp looking ride.[/quote] Thanks for the comment. When I was looking for a vette black was not high on my list but when I seen it in person I knew it was the one. 11K miles in 13 months and I don't drive it during the week due to how dirty I get at work. Most will tell you how hard it is to keep a black car clean but I only wash it maybe once a month. California duster and a wet micro fiber mitt and a good wax is what I do. And yes it has been driven in the rain (it wont melt). |

Beautiful car AR15 fan!
I think you answered me back when I was contemplating getting one, and you were right. Those front rims aren't 18" are they? To me the C5 Z's have two faults, they sound great, but they are too quiet, and I wish they had 18" front rims too, but that's just me. Oh, and I love black too, but quick silver was my first choice. |

No, those are the stock sizes, 17s in the front still. I actually had a XSPower catback that i loved, very mean sound. But my gf wasn't digging it so I'm back to stock. And you're right, definitely too quiet. Hoping maybe adding longtube headers with the stock exhaust will improve it a bit without going too far. You should look into the "ti bypass mod" if you haven't. If you can find someone to weld titanium it seems like just the thing to step up the volume while keeping the ti catback... |
