at christmas i bought my wife a new monitor for here hp computer..it is basically a 30 inch tv.i had to dick around and get the correct cable to make it work.the tv/monitor side is hdmi and the other side computer monitor plug.it worked fine for a month, now the computer keeps loosing video output?its odd,if i unplug the new monitor and plug in the old 19 inch setup, then cycle the computer power, sometimes it has video output again..does this sound like a bad video card?

Swapped out the cable yet?

Not all HDMI cables are the same, and even good ones die.

How many cables are you running from the computer to the monitor? Your post is unclear.

I bought and HP all in one a few years ago that had an HDMI port, but it turned out the port was only good for audio. And that's how HP lost my business.

well,i would ask my son,but he hasnt came home for a few days..lol....there is a single cable from the comp to the monitor.originally on the old monitor setup, there was a single cable with a adapter of some sort at the computer end...now,there is no adapter,it plugs directly into the comp on one end,and the monitor on the other.

Use of TV panels as computer displays can be problematic under the best of circumstances.  Not all are built the same and depending on the computer's video chipset and output parameters may not be able to reliably function as a purpose designed monitor.

Also the video card in the computer might not be strong enough to handle a large tv display.  I wouldn't think that would be the case with a 30" inch though but a possibility.  My laptop will drive a 60" tv no problem but I hooked it up to an 80" and the display went out.  I then got a much longer HDMI cable and ran it to my desktop with a beefy video card and it displayed no problem.
