someone recently told me that the law was updated in january that now allows individuals with past defaulted loans to be eligible to carry.  is this true?

If you are talking about a default on a student loan, yes that no longer will disqualify you to get a Texas CHL.

It took us over 120 years to get rid of the old post civil war laws. Most of our state and local politicians are no better than those in DC. All snakes. Also remember the majority of people living here came here from someplace else. Lots from the rustbelt and now more from the left coast. Growing up in the 50s/60s  the population was around 3 million for the entire state. Now Harris County (Houston) has 5 million. Just in one county! 15 million total! WJ
