When camping I am a stickler about not leaving camp because I don't want anybody jacking my shit. I generally camp miles from the nearest person out in the forest. When you guys leave camp do you leave your gear? Do you lock everything up? Thanks for any thoughts.

Depends on where it is.  I take it on a place by place basis.  Doesn't hurt to throw all the valuables in the car, few people are going to steal tents and sleeping bags.

I never camp alone and I never leave my things anywhere unless someone with me is watching them.

10 years ago... left everything out.

Today. It all gets locked up. And my group of camping buddies usually makes friendly with the neighboring campsite for added security while we go up and shoot and offroad.

Numerous times camping, and yet to have any problems... but, typically, Oregon is cool as fuck once you get away from the trash in the cities.

Back country camping is what it all about (don't have this problem out in the boonies). Car camping =

Depends on what part of the country you are in.

Exactly. I have found lakes out in the middle of the forest on google maps then just 4x4 there. Places people have rarely if ever gone to. I think they might make a good BOL.

I agree it pretty much depends on where you are.  I like to set up my tent and go of and do whatever I m going to do.  At the moment my only option is car camping between an injured leg and a 3-year-old the backpacking the wife and I used to do is not an option so the guy who said should ealize there are reasons for car camping.  I do like to get setup though so I don't hve setting up a tent hanging over my head while I am doind whatever it is I am doing.  When I backpacked though I pretty much did the same, the first thing I would do would be to set up my tent as this i the most time consuming thing that you want to avoid having to do in the dark/rain.

Backcountry camper here, so I cannot opine as to car camping.

Back in the day I didn't do anything.  Nowadays I carry a little lock (like the ones on you use on your luggage) and use it to "lock" up my tent.

No, it will not stop a determined thief.  But no piece of nylon (i.e. your tent) is going to deter a determined thief anyway.  And as a backcountry camper I am not lugging a safe in my backpack!

Most of the time my higher-dollar equipment is on my person and not in my tent so the exposure to thievery is less.

- Garmin Rino radio/GPS
- Flashlight (headlamp)
- Knife (Ontario RAT5)
- Shell jacket and pants (usually in my daypack; you never know when it will rain)
- Boots (on my feet)

Yeah my tent (Sierra Designs Omega CD), sleeping bag (TNF Flight), stove (Whisperlite Internationale) and backpack (Gregory something) are worth $$ but you just can't protect everything.  I figger the lock will deter the casual thief ... and the determined thieves will get what they want anyway.

This. When I want to go somewhere else I pack my tent and cookset and go somewhere else.

Yea....get yourself a nice motorhome.  That way, they can't steal your margarita blender.
