could someone tell me why: when i pull back the charging handle the
buffer and spring come out of the stock.  and yes the pin is there but it doesn't stay. thank you for any help.

This is what happened to me, the buffer tube needed another turn in to hold the detent down.

If it's a collapsible stock, it's probably not turned far enough into the lower receiver to keep the buffer detent in place.

Never saw a fixed A1/A2 stock with that problem.

Yup, your buffer tube needs one more turn.

Keep in mind, I've got 2 civilian buffer tubes from Bushmaster, that were too far back for one turn, and with one more turn, bound up against the pin.

Their buffer tubes have about 1 thread turns more of material on the bottom half, and this needed a slight dremeling so I could do that one extra turn and still have the pin move up and down freely.

When I look at Bushmasters in the store, I can see where they've milled down this area, only they did a better job of it than me.

This taught me just because it screws in, doesn't mean the fit is right, even if the upper and the buffer tube were from the same company.
