Once and a while I get on a fritos and bean dip binge...what  can of refried beans at about a buck a  can I make a decent chip dip out of....if it's to complex I will just buy the rack stuff....just need tips for being a cheap old fuck....thanks

take whatever can of refrieds you have, add water to just thinner than your desired consistency then mix in enough diced jalapenos to heat to your liking and simmer over low heat until you reach the thickness you want and serve

I've made it before by mixing a can of beans with a block of cream cheese.  

Add some spices/peppers.  

Microwave or bake and mix the two up.

Top it all with some shredded Cheddar.

A can of Old El Paso beans.
A teaspoon of lard.
Heat and stir.
Add your favorite brand of jarred salsa.
Stir.

Enjoy.

Lucky to be near a great Mexican town for buying the good stuff.

Brown chorizo sausage, add canned refried black beans, add can of Mexican jalapenos chopped fine.
Heat to meld flavors.

I bought this white bean / truffle dip at Wegman's years ago...it was amazing, and I've been looking for it ever since.  They told me it was a seasonal item, though, and they never know when or if they'll get it back.  So I've tried a few times to recreate it, but I've never really been successful, I can't get the texture right.

Someone above brought up cream cheese...and now I can't wait to get home and try using that to smooth things out.  Can of cannellini, some cream cheese, truffle oil, a bit of fresh garlic, process until smooth...

I'll report back, I'm looking forward to trying this!

In a glass cooking pan ( easier to clean when done ):

From bottom to top:

1. Spread refried beans around , about 1/4 inch

2. Spread sour cream on top of beans.

3, 1/2 jar of your favorite salsa on top of sour cream.

4. 1/2 bag of taco mix cheese

5. Add jalapeno slices on top

6. Chill in refrigerator for about an hour

7. Eat!
