so I did end up getting the virus off my laptop thanks to some help from here

But,my laptop got damaged really bad(long story,im not getting into it right now), and it looks like I need to buy a new one  Here lies my question,my old laptop still turns on but the screen and whatnot is FUBAR'd. The screen is inoperable and you cant see anything. Is there a way to get some files from my old beat up laptop to a new one that I buy? Do they make cables or something that can transfer files from one to another?

Depends on how much you want to spend.

What I would do (and did when mine died) is buy an external hard drive enclosure take the HD out of the old lap top, put it into the enclosure.

Then you can plug it right in and transfer the information.

Depending on what kind of TV you have you should be able to buy a VGA cable and run it from the old laptop to the TV and display the old laptop on your TV, and then use a flash drive (or burn CD's) of the information that you want.

Yeah, anyone competent with computer repair should be able to help.  You can probably even hook a monitor up to the laptop and burn some cds if necessary.

Worst case, someone can pull the hard drive out of it, and hook it to their computer with an adapter.

http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/windows-installer

Download that, your laptop should work again, but it won't be windows (it'll be better).

Also a USB cord to another laptop should help extract photo's.

Take out the hard drive, put it in one of these...External Encloser (it will be 2.5" and either IDE or SATA connections so make sure you get the right one for your hard drive)

Then just plug it in to a your new laptop and copy over what you want. Should be very easy. I did it with my laptop and now use the old drive as a backup.

VGA cable so you can see to download to an external hard drive or cd's is your cheap option.  I've done that myself and it worked just fine.  If you can find a good hard drive enclosure (Best Buy carries some), that would be your best option.  Some hard drive enclosures come with a program that will mirror you old hard drive onto the new one.  Basically you get the same hard drive and information you had in a new laptop skeleton.

I finally gave up trying to reinstall Windows (my recovery discs got fubar'd somehow) and installed Ubuntu.  It doesn't seem to be as fast as windows was with this laptop, but it works just fine and it's F-R-E-E!
