“If” I had an incident at good old wal-mart tonight…. Was in line right around midnight when they change over the registers and close all but one lane when a rather big man got in line 2 people behind me (I was about 5-6 people away from the register myself) and he began yelling at the employees telling them that they needed to open up another line, and continued on to say, still to everyone in a loud voice, that he though he should just go out the door and that they didn’t have enough people to stop him, then he said he should just stick the items down his pants and walk out and he then continued in a loud voice stating that he would just “pop a cap” In anyone that tried to stop him….. I then turned around being in law enforcement in plain clothes, showed my identification and advised him he needed to leave, he attempted to argue that it was “freedom of speech” I advised him that threatening to shoot people in the store was intimidation and a crime, he asked for a “break” and as I was thinking I was giving him a break by not arresting him I advised him, very firmly, 3 times he needed to leave now, at which point he left. And I was left feeling quite shaken as I checked out with my onion, provolone cheese, and marinara sauce the wife sent me out to get, and upon further though quite under gunned only carrying my Kel-Tek PF9 with 8 rounds on board…. As I walked to my car scanning every row and as I drove home in loops making sure I wasn’t being followed…. Did I handle it ok? I felt under gunned and didnt have my cell on me.... the guy was probably 6' 1" to 6' 2" 300ish lb

I probably wouldn't have said anything in fear of escalating something but I sure as shit would have had my pistol ready for it to happen. I guess with a badge though it gives you more authority in stopping a verbal situation. All ended well though so I say good almost draw. |

you never know, if he was brash enough to start yelling at the employees and that he was going to shoot somone in front of everyone who knows what he would actually do, after it was over i was scanning hte parking lot cause i had no idea how pissed he was or if he decided to wait on me.... and ot follow me till i was on my own.....

Do you mean you were off duty or do you really carry a kel tec on the clock? Do you think someone would be acting like that with a uniformed police officer standing a few feet away, generally speaking? When someone says plain clothed police officer I think of a detective or someone on the clock that isn't in uniform. You know, with the badge on belt low profile. He did specify he wasn't in uniform though, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone did act like that with a uniformed officer nearby. |

Ok, I think I get this story: A dispatcher carries a kel-tec since it doesn't clash with his crocs and elastic waist band board shorts pulls his shiny ID from his wallet and meekly tells some other customer they needed to go, then gets scared, doesn't call the big boys since they would lol at the desk jockey then proceeds to get scared in the parking lot and wastes a lot of gas instead of letting the police do their job. amidoingitrite?

I am assuming this didn't happen like you said.
I am also assuming that you aren't really a cop that carries 8 rounds of 9 mm and sticking your nose into things off duty that you don't have to, and then getting scared because you did. So what did the non cop show the man? |

Sounds like the situation was handled just fine, except for the fact you should have a bigger gun. Your ability to handle the situation far exceeds my nervous reaction to confrontation, which consists of pulling my pants down and yelling, "Who likes schnitzel!?" |

If you're an off duty LEO, why didn't you have this guy arrested?
If nothing else, it's probable cause for LEO interaction and a search; you're probably going to find a firearm, and you know he doesn't have a permit for it, and he might even be a convicted felon. Nobody called the cops because of this guy's behavior? What the hell? If that's the type of behavior that's tolerated in your community, you need to find another place to live. Worse yet, if you're a LEO, and letting people get away with stuff like this, I just don't know what to say. You didn't have your phone, but did you think that nobody would call 911 if you asked? Again, if that's the mentality of this area, then the thugs might as well run their own flag up the pole, because they've won. I wasn't there, but I'm mad just thinking about it. |
