I am an Active Duty SF in the Air Force, why do civilian cops call people civilians? Cause to me civilan means non-military. So civilian cops are still civilians, just always found it funny.

They are civilians, not even close to being our counterparts in any way whatsoever.  I make it known whenever one of those lowly civilian LEOs gives me a speeding ticket, destroying any chance of me talking myself out of it.  I take the fine with pride knowing Im still more hardcore and could kick his ass if I wanted to.

This has been beat to death. For the same reason that members of any group refer to others outside their group  by some name to distinguish those in the group from those outside the group. People in vaudeville in the 20th century called anyone not in their profession " civilians" for the same reason. You don't hear anyone at AR15 complaining about rogue vaudeville actors.

You had to go back and add a smiley.  If you were even in the slightest bit a professional, you wouldn't be putting a brother in the position of having to make the choice.  I knew several LEO's that never gave LEO's warnings or "professional courtesy", the feeling ws they knew better and by violating the law only gave ammo to the whiners like we get around here.   That and they knew the shit that would happen if an off-duty LEO killed somebody in an accident.

For anyone interested, not that anyone is, my interpretation of a civilian is someone without veteran's status.  Everyone is a citizen.

So, I am a citizen.  If you are a cop and never did your time in the military, you are a civilian.  I am not a civilian, according to my DD 214.  You don't want to be a civilian?  Do your time defending this country.

Nobody in the military, or a veteran thereof with an honorable discharge, should ever be referred to as a civilian.  Pride for life, soldier for life.

personally, I've been a cop and around cops for a total of 20 years now.  include that time and I've been around military for a total of 35 years, and in all that time, the only cops I've EVER heard call people "civilians" are prior military.  The rest of us LEO's have a tendency to call them "Citizens"

At best AF is "military-lite" for those that like wearing uniforms, but don't want to do PT, get dirty, work extended hours................................

Actually I've never met a former Air Force person who later moved on to LEO work. All of them so far have been either Army or Marines.
