And my last!!!!!

I was a kid. My brothers chewed it while hunting.  Grandpaw was a bloodhound or cannonball man.
They gave me a taste of Red Man just to discourage any further curiosity. And for the LULZ.
I never chewed tobacco again.

It Remain a confirmed bubble gum user.

I was hiking up a mountain, deer hunting.   I'll never forget that buzz.    I never once got sick from it.

I did that crap for 15 years and just quit a year and a half ago.

ETA:   Kodiak, not the pouch stuff.

Levi garret, 11 years old on a fall day helping my dad to stack firewood as he hand split it. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I just got in from outside where I was just now wearing the same coat (Woolrich Hunter's coat he bought in 1970) that he gave me. He was wearing this coat I wear today, on that day.

Mine was Beach Nut. That was the most god awful crap I ever tasted. Couldn't spit it out fast enough.

A great grand-father(mom's side) always did Apple plug chew, he also had part of  his tongue removed due to cancer, that did not deter me , never acquired the taste
for Red Man much,  although I did smoke for 40+ yrs. (mostly KOOLS), when I was younger I would do "just a pinch between the cheek and gums" (Hawken)

Red Man.

If you really want some heartburn, try some Mammouth Cave twist.

Really, I was about 4 years old and we lived in an upstairs apartment.
My father did Copenhagen and threw the empties down in the bushes.

My little fingers could get the leavings from the rim, so like father, like son.

My mother would catch me and get livid.

True story.

Daddy chewed Cannonball plug and that was the first.

My first was Key, its all grandpa chewed. I was probably around 11 or 12, snuck some and got sicker than I thought was possible. Dad and Grandpa just laughed about it, a lot!

Best ever reaction though was in Jr. High school. 6th. hr. metal shop, my buddy Ron had just worked up the first big spit on a fresh cha of Beechnut Wintergreen, Mr, Maney came up behind him and gave him a good swat on the back right between his shoulder blades. Ron swallowed the whole thing! I walked home with him that day, Ron was staggering and turned about 7 different shades of green but never puked. He wasn't at school the next day. We still laugh about it when we see each other.

I prefer chaw to dip. Beech nut is freaking delicious IMO.

[#19]
Yeah, I carried a bag of RedMan around when I was 13, sucked on some leaf for a few days, got very green around the gills.
Coupla  older kids    bummed more of it than I  gagged on.
The tobacco habit never took  for me.

Started when I was 14 or 15 with some buddies while fishing. I have chewed off and on ever since. I often chew a whole pack of Levi Garrett or Red man a day but even the smell of snuff makes my stomach turn. Every time I tried snuff it make me puke. I even tried some snuff last year after chewing for 20 years and yep it still makes me hurl. Don't know why. I love me some chew though.

It really depends what I am doing how much I chew. I often go weeks without using it at all but if I am doing manual labor type work I chew a lot.

11/23/2013 12:38:32 PM EDT
[#21]
Copenhagen Long Cut Straight - I was 14 or 15, working at a paintball field when one of the older dudes offered me some.

I reffed a few games with it in no problem. About half way through the third I thought I saw a dude get hit and tuck back in so I ran in to check him. While looking him over, I took 5 or 6 hits to the back out of nowhere, it caused me to gasp and I inhaled half and swallowed the other half...

...after that I was not a happy camper

First was Beechnut when I was 21. Never got sick off chew, but my first dip of Skoal made the room spin for awhile.

My grandfather used to chew Copenhagen.

I would watch him take a dip and then spend the rest of the day spitting it out.

I thought that was pretty dumb.

Kegger party in high school. I was a freshman. Someone said the cops were coming down the road!!

An older friend said put this Copenhagen in your mouth - it covers the smell of the beer.

Put a pinch between my lower lip and gums (had no idea what to do with it - just had seen other guys do it) Cops did not show up, but the sky started spinning and the ground turned to wobbly jelly. I spit the crap out as I hit the deck.  Laid flat on my back fighting back puke for the rest of the "party" - swear to God I was on some kind of merry-go-round ride.

Never tried it again, never will

Right before I got into a formation at MCT at Camp Geiger someone gave me a pinch of Kodiak.  I had a hard time not falling over.

Skoal, sometime in my freshman year of high school.  We were hanging out at a park and a buddy gave me some.  I put in a dip and waited...nothing seemed to be happening.  He recommended I put another dip on the other side.

Then it hit.  I got the spins and felt sick for an hour or two.  I remember I went home and laid on the bed, very nauseous.

Only time I still do it is when I pick up a pouch of Redman before camping or fishing.

Oh yeah. Mine was regular beech-nut too. We used to hide it under my buddy's neighbor's front porch. I must have been in 1st or 2nd grade. I liked it right away, and all was well, until a daughter of my mother's friend saw us chewing, and told her mom. My mother's friend (the girl who saw us' mom) sat me down and told me a story about her friend, who used to chew but got all messed up in the mouth from it.

There was alot of things I didn't like about this lady, but she told me right then and there, " I won't tell your mom, if you don't do it again", I agreed. And she never told my mother, you know how I know? She'd have kicked my ass if she'd of found out

I still chew sometimes, but not all the time.

And this is my kid sick from chewing face

I was probably 6 or 7 and it was Copenhagen. During a family Christmas get together I picked up a Dr Pepper can that was sitting on a card table and took a mighty draw.......it was my cousins spitter. I got most of it down and then right back up it came. You'd think that I'd never touch the stuff again but I've dipped Copenhagen since I was about 15.

My first chew were some Skoal Bandits at soccer practice, maybe age 14.

I rode my bike home in the rain, and crashed and swallowed 'em.

I puked out my guts and shit out my brains.

My first and last experience cured me of chew.

Skoal Wintergreen when I was about 16, was out squirrel hunting with my buddy and he gave me a pinch. Spent the entire morning sitting under a big oak holding my head trying to stop the spinning.

I've been dipping Copenhagen Wintergreen and Long Cut Straight for a couple years now, wish I had never started, but like it too much to quit.

Papaw gave me some King B Twist.  I held it alright then.

Got sick on dip though, can't handle that stuff.

Still chew some Cumberland twist occasionally.

Where does one buy a twist of tobacco?  Are they just plain tobacco or are they each flavored or processed differently?  What do you do, just bite a piece off and chew on it?

Working on the ambulance at 18, my partner gave me a pinch of cherry skol, that was 1997.
