So don't expect to use all of the ships without spending an absurd $80-200 each. There are not many details on the SP portion though. X Rebirth on the other hand is SP only. |

I haven't looked into this much. This isn't an MMO like star citizen and eve right?
I love space sims but I burned out hard on eve because it tries to take up so much of your time. I can't believe I haven't played this series before I don't even remember hearing about it. Possibly I did though and it was just that forgettable. |

Think Privateer with awesome graphics and open ended game play, kinda like GTA in space. It's not an RPG per se, since your "character" is the ship, and how powerful you are is directly tied to how well you (the player) flies and fights. Like Eve, the learning curve is pretty steep, but it mostly involves learning how to survive the furballs that can happen at the drop of a hat. There is a storyline (several, actually), but they are pretty optional, and you can mostly ignore them and play the game as a straight up space sandbox if you really want to. |

DO not BUY !!! its a horrible clusterfuck , metacritic score is at 4.9. The engine is 7 years old , graphics and performance are crap and cell shaded , looks like a shitty borderlands kind of thing. no 3rd person view, . Steam forums are full of angry fans , I tried if for 3 hours , its total garbage . No joystick support either , only gamepad . so many bugs , its barley a beta . I had high hopes , but the X3's were far better that this crap. Feels like a shitty console port.

They eventually get it all sorted out and everything working right, and then spend the next 5 years adding free content and storylines to the game.

Can only hope Rebirth is as heavily moddable as they've said.
