I am military so I move a lot and can’t establish a relationship with ADs like others can. Is it possible to work with two ADs and not ‘cheat’ the system? I’m just trying to get a watch at MSRP and can care less about the secondary market. Thanks! |

It’s not cheating the system, it’s playing the game and no different than hitting up multiple dealerships when car shopping. The only time it might hurt is if you try to register with multiple locations that have the the same owner, but it’s not like there’s some central Rolex database of interested buyers. What model are you looking to buy? |
| I got two watches from two different AD this year. One was a surprise, as I had only been a customer for a couple of months, the other I had been waiting a while for. |

What model are you looking to buy? Thanks for the insight. I’m looking for a GMT-II, either the Pepsi or the Batman. Eventually I’ll get both (true ARFCOM answer)! |

It can’t hurt to ask, but just be realistic about your expectations. Both of those are selling on the secondary market for multi-thousands over MSRP. ADs know this and usually only offer them to customers that have already lost thousands buying less desirable models, jewelry, other watch brands, etc. that immediately lost value just walking out the door. Excluding back door sales, the guy that flipped his Pepsi for a $10k profit lost much more than that on his other purchases. Another thing to consider is that it’s a myth that there’s a ‘list’ and you just need to wait your turn. In reality, it’s 100% up to the AD and they’re going to use that GMT as a carrot to big spenders that are willing to lose tens of thousands on their other purchases. So, take it all with a grain of salt. |
| The dealers just want to make the watches more "exclusive" and can easily do that by charging the premium. If folks want the watches badly enough to pay that premium then they are free to do so. That is good old supply/demand capitalism. The same idea applies to rare cars, guns, knives or any other consumer item. |

The amount of money you’ll need to spend to get either of those will be much higher than just buying it on the secondary market. Unless you have a wife you love buying jewelry for. |
I'm too drunk to taste this chicken.

So, take it all with a grain of salt. Thanks again for the insight. I’m tracking that I’m asking a lot with the secondary market being what it is. I’ve pled my case (getting promoted to COL) and having plans to buy three Rolexes (one to pass to each of my sons). Hopefully I have some luck between the two ADs I’ve visited over the past two months. If I have to buy an IWC or some jewelry for my wife, then lucky us! I’d rather just get straight to the GMTs. |

Yes - just keep in touch with both. It’s like having girlfriends in different towns, don’t mention one to the other. Mention the promotion- that might actually help get you bumped up on the “list” - a birthday did for me. Then set yourself a drop dead date to go gray. Life is too short to wait on ADs. |

Very cool and congrats. Here’s a trick then: ask them to engrave the case back with the date of your promotion, whatever milestone you have coming up, or even the name of the son you intend to bequeath it to in your will. No flipper would ever ask to do that and it’d stick out in the salesperson’s mind. |
