Since the last one was so much fun I thought we could discuss this again. Hopefully this time we can maintain a shred of civility and keep the thread from being locked.
article in Helena Independent Record Wolves kill goat, injure dog north of Helena
By Associated Press - 03/19/09 BOZEMAN — The state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks has authorized federal trappers to kill two wolves after wolves killed a domestic goat and severely injured a guard dog on private land north of Helena. Wildlife officials say they believe the Mitchell Mountain Pack, which includes five to seven wolves, was involved. It is the third incident of wolf depredation north of Helena in less than a year. A guard dog on a ranch was killed in June and a domestic goat was killed in October. Separately, FWP euthanized a female wolf near Gardiner due to severe mange. The wolf had been seen recently around residences in the Gardiner/Maiden Basin area and had killed some domestic chickens. |

"WOLVES ARE CUTE FLUFFY AND NATURAL AND YOU MUST LEAVE THEM ALONE. THIS IS A MINOR THING. ALWAYS IS EVEN IF SOMEBODY GETS HURT"
"THIS INCIDENT PROVES WOLVES ARE A THREAT WE MUST KILL EVERY LAST ONE AND SOW THEIR LANDS WITH SALT." There. I did the thread for you we can close it now. |

You're right. No more need for discussion. However, until recently I didn't realize there was that much controversy over wolves and I want to hear what others have to say about the situation. I've seen plenty of stickers like "Save the elk. Abate the wolf," and "Smoke a pack a day" accompanied by an illustration of a wolf with a red line through it (just saw that one today), but no stickers or argument (around MT) to the contrary. |

"THIS INCIDENT PROVES WOLVES ARE A THREAT WE MUST KILL EVERY LAST ONE AND SOW THEIR LANDS WITH SALT. IF WE HAD WOLVES IN TEXAS, I'D SSS.." "ALL WE WANT TO DO IS REASONABLY MANAGE THE POPULATION THROUGH REGULATED HUNTING." "SHUT UP, REASONABLE GUY FROM A STATE WITH WOLVES!" There. I did the thread for you we can close it now. Close |

Hopefully the one in Gardiner passes the mange on to the ones in the park to cut down the population a bunch. It is not if but when will a wolf get someones kids. They have no fear of man because they are not hunted. Wolves do need to be kept in check. Would you site one instance in the last 200 years of a wolf attacking a human? Didn't think you could. |

I always try to politely chew ass whenever people start up the Ranger Rick version of "The wolf is more scared of you than you are of it" bullshit. I teach my kids to GTFO if they see large wild animals. Let the little hippie kids get up close and personal with large carnivores. Seriously.
