Wow I feel bad for you guys. I thought we minnesotans were the ones who would end up with socialists. But Pawlenty (R) beat Moe (D) for governor by 10%! That is amazing! A republican governor, a large republican majority in the state house, a newly elected republican senator, and gains in the state senate (although the dems are still barely hanging on to the majority there). I can't believe it--and to top it all off our governor is actively in favor of shall issue ccw! It's on his agenda. I don't know how this happened. I think all of our socialists must have been on vacation in wisconsin. Sorry.... You might have to move here. |

At least the legislature is Rep controlled, so hopefully nothing too horrible will make it to Doyle's desk. While McCallum would have been *FAR* preferable to Doyle, remember that McCallum had the opportunity to force the issue on CCW this year and chose not to. |

Quoted: At least the legislature is Rep controlled, so hopefully nothing too horrible will make it to Doyle's desk. I agree. How much do you think Doyle will really be able to do with a GOP controlled Assembly and Senate? Not much I'd say. And I also don't consider the PPA dead. If it comes up for a vote this year, it will pass. If Doyle veto's it, there is a good chance it could be forced into law anyway. I'm not sure he's dumb enough to veto it though. All in all I think WI is doing ok. Sure Doyle got in with his nobody Lt. What the hell does the Lt. Gov. do anyway? Nothing. I could have done without Peggy Lautenslager, but she won't be making any laws so big deal. Tammy Baldwin (she's pretty much a communist) hasn't done much yet, I'm sure that won't change. The GOP has the power where power counts. It would have been fantastic for us all if McCallum had gotten in. But I can stand a few years of Doyle. It could be as bad as Illinois you know. |

We in Illinois would like to thank you guys in Wisconsin for, in the past, electing Herb (I'm a rich liberal and proud of it)Kohl and Russ (I love John McCain and campaign finance reform) Feingold to the Senate. They've really helped out gun owners.[;D] About as much as recently re-elected DICK Durbin (D) and Peter Fitzgerald (R) in Illinois.[:D] Or Carol Moseley-Braun and Paul Simon before them. Nuke most of Madison and Milwaukee and your state would be all right. Just like in IL, get rid of Chicago and the state would be great. |

I agree with all of the above. The other thing is that McCallum had zilch in the way of charisma/voter "sex appeal". Similar to the turn-over of the Governor's office right next door in Michigan, it was almost as though after a decade+ of being in power, the Republicans have gone a bit stale in terms of themes that are attractive to the voters. Politically, I find Wisconsin to have somewhat of a split personality, where just about anything can "go": It, as a state, has gone all the way from LaFollette Progressives, to electing (hard right wing) Joe McCarthy, to liberal/totally independent Bill Proxmire. |

Oral argument in Cole and Hamden will be 11/14/02 at 9:45 a.m. IIRC. The decision should then likely come sometime before July of 2003. Hopefully a pro-RKBA decision in Cole/Hamden will force Doyle into signing (or not vetoing) the PPA. The decision just needs to question the blanket prohibition on CCW, then it opens the state up to possible Vermont model CCW with another adverse decision. This would mean that the PPA would be better than Vermont style (though not in my opinion). Keep in mind that Cole/Hamden doesn't need to strike sec. 941.23, Stats. down, but only put it shakey legal ground. |

The Repubs, have control of the Assembly and Senate. Lt. Govenor is Democrat, Who Cares? I don't think Atty General really has much "pull" either. A lot of what they can do has Gubenatorial or Legislative oversight. As far as Govenor, Doyle couldn't get 40% of his family's vote when T. Thompson was Govenor. Yet he beat the incumbent. Actaully Doyle didn't win, McClueless lost. He had the most negative campaign I have ever seen. I got tired of him talking about the Atty General that didn't find the legislative corruption, and calling Doyle a "Madison Politician". Seems a little hypocritical to say when you are the Govenor, and were Lt. Govenor for a while before that. What part of the makes him less culpable for not finding that same corruption, or any less of a "Madison Politician"?? NOTHING. A Govenor is the ulimate "insider" at the State level. Then seeing McClueless whining on TV how his record is being attack unfairly. Grow up whiney man. I don't think Doyle particuarly good, he seems better suited to manage a medium to large grocery store. [:)] But unfortunately the Repubs put the village idiot up for re-election. I don't think McClueless put any work into getting CHL's. I'm sure Doyle will not support any CHL type legislation either. I don't think either will/would be a help in that regard. I think CHL's will be coming soon though. |

Quoted: Our biggest problem is rich FIBs... Once they came in ..driving up taxes ..driving out the locals...the politics turned lib... The Wi folks on this board obviously arent the problem.. Its the ones on that 'other' board... hehehe Dude, I'm one of those Fine Illinois Boys and my wife is a Fine Illinois Babe. We moved to Madison three years ago and were culture shocked when we realized exactly how friggin leftist it is here. Most of the Illinois people I know who live in Wisconsin (aside from the people from Chicago, which isn't really part of Illinois anyway) came here because they feel at home with the mostly conservative midwest environment. You can blame the Illinois people all you want, but it's the locals who are ignoring their state heritage and trying to "diversify" and live the urban lifestyle that is glorified in the mass media. Take the incident with the Mountaineer mascot and musket at the UW football game for instance. UW claims to be one of the most tolerant and diverse universities in the country (emphasis on claims) but forgot that Camp Randal was a training camp for Civil War soldiers and is a war memorial. I see what's happening in Wisconsin to be the same thing that's happening everywhere else. The major urban areas are voting all the wrong people into office because the rural communities don't realize just how many people are voting against them. Then they bitch and complain when they don't like what's happening, swear all politicians are corrupt, but STILL DON'T VOTE! I simply don't understand the mentality of it all. Why only 50% of all eligible voters are registered is beyond me. And then not all of those people even bother to vote. It's about voter apathy. The conservative outlook is usually that things are going alright so why mess with it. The liberals always feel like they're on a mission to save the planet or a river or some minority group. The vocal, active voters make the decisions. Make the conservative voters as aggresive and vocal as the liberals and things will quickly change. |

Quoted: .... Make the conservative voters as aggresive and vocal as the liberals and things will quickly change. I think we might be close to seeing this already. Senator Chuck Chvala killed the PPA early this year. (I wish I could upload his booking photo right now but have format problems. [:(]) Republicans vow to go after ALL Democrats because they failed to follow through with assisting us with the PPA. Republicans TAKE CONTROL of the Senate, which was a long shot and surprised many. PPA supported at least one of the new R candidates who won. Republicans still have the Assembly. We lost the gubernatorial race because McCallum is a bad politician, quite frankly. From what a hear, a decent and honest human being, but a bad politician. The two should not be mutually exclusive, but unfortunately are. We lost the AG's race because Vince Biskupic had some skeletons come rattling out of his closet at the last minute. Soooo, did we lose this race because of political agenda or because we didn't field the best candidates? I can guarantee you that if Republican (and former politician) Scott Klug would have run for governor he would have won EASILY. He hinted that he might run in 2006 when his last kid has left the nest. He will win against Doyle in 2006. He is a charismatic, smart and connected Republican candidate. My wife called him the Republican version of JFK. We lost the governor's mansion because (while both candidates were bad), ours was worse than theirs apparently. I believe we're on the right course, particularly considering the national elections. |
