Farms around us have been getting broken into so I've been thinking about getting some video camera's around the place. I'd like to get something that I can monitor with a pc over my home network, I'd prefer wireless camera's both indoor and outdoor with motion activated recording. I'd throw some in and/or around outbuildings and maybe a couple around the house. Everybody say's their product is the best......I'd like some real life arfcom suggestions! Thanks! |

I installed, operate, and maintain a ~14 camera IP system for my work. You will be MUUUCH better off going with wired cameras. PoE on Cat5 is where it's at for functionality and reliability. You can run lengths of Cat5 pretty dang far. Small wire, and one wire for power, video, and audio. That said.... I don't know much about the wireless cameras because we never even bothered to research them. We went with Mobotix magapixel cameras, and they have all of the bells and whistles and are easy to use. |

Unless you are looking for short range camera work forget X10. Also the so-called program for the computer recording is nothing more than a dll file that they try to run as a program. does not work worth a shit. They may have something better but I would be leery of it unless they state that it is not just a dll file but an actual program w/an executable file. They say their wireless is good for 100 ft. but if it has to go through walls at that range the signal isn't very good. The cameras are good picture quality wise for maybe 30 ft. if you are looking for positive id, beyond that don't count on it. Their stuff is small and is kinda neat but it lacks real world application. |

the Panasonics and Sonys are really nice, but they are pretty proud of them. Linksys has some ok cheaper models. try and get a wireless N model (but make sure your router is a wireless N as well. eta: if its going to be used outside, make sure you get a heated waterproof enclosure. |
