Anybody else miss the Wing Commander games? I sure do, I've had a hankering for some Wing Commander III or IV for a month or two. Back in the 90s I'd only played the games on the SNES and the Playstation. The experience wasn't like that of playing on a PC, but it was still freaking awesome.

I've been thinking about trying to hunt down the elusive DVD versions of III and IV as those have high quality MPEG-2 cut scenes. It sure would be awesome to play the game and see video that wasn't all grainy because of limited CD space. It's probably impossible to find those DVD versions though.

Yeah, I REALLY miss Wing COmmander.

I know you can find the movies from Prophecy. I'm not so sure about those from III and IV.

Heck, I think I'm going to load Prophecy and the high rez pack later. Download Wing Commander Saga, too.

Strike Commander was just as good.  Think wing commander with a mercenary group flying F-16's...

Good game. I think it was the first3D accelerated WC.

Never finished it, though, but it was neat to have a new enemy and some actual depth to cap ships.

As I edited my first post, I think I'll reload Prophecy later.

You should look up Wing Commander Saga. It's a fan project that was off to a VERY promising start, last I checked in with them.

I was kind of let down by Wing Commander III so I did not buy IV but you have to remember that Tie Fighter came out for the PC then.

Spent many a night playing Prophecy, thought it was a great game.  Might also need to reload it.

I couldn't get enough of the simulator mission where wave after wave of Kilrathi attack the MIdway. I take the Vampire and kill a whole lot of cats.

That fighter tears up kilrathi heavy fighters in close.

"I think we waited too long to leave!"

Does Prophesy have cut scenes? I was always under the impression that it didn't have any.

Oh yeah. Hamil and Wilson were back as Blair and Maniac.

You play a new recruit.

I thought everyone from the old games was gone.

I LOVED that game.  I was a frugal madman with the iron bombs.

Well, after Prophecy, EVERYONE was.

Blair disappeared early in the game and I never got far enough to find out what happened to him.

I think the captain from WC III and IV was back, too.

You can watch the cut scenes here. I only tested the first, but it works, so I assume some if not all still do.

LoL.
I'm right in the middle of III on my PS2. Not as good as the PC version, but still pretty fun.

I'm going to have to look for this one. It sounds bad ass... Mainly because the F-16 is my favorite fighter aircraft.

Malcom McDowell as Adm Tolwyn was a masterpiece of douchebaggery

The 3D0 version was actually better than the PC version. It had more movies. Too bad the console never really made it.

WING COMMANDER 4 was the game that turned me into a man.

1995, 5th grade?

There haven't been ANY good space flight games since then.  Descent:Freespace was good, but it was really lacking on the story/character.  Privateer 2 was the LAST good space flight game, but that was in like... 2003? 2004?

The PC games industry isn't what it used to be. It was wonderful in the 90s.
