The windshield on my Tacoma is chipped and cracked in a number of places and I've come to the conclusion that I need to replace it.  How much should I expect to pay?  Any recommendations on selecting a company to do it?  My biggest worry is that the replacement will leak - is that a valid concern with modern replacement?

I called my insurance agent, who offered to call around and get a quote at the "insurance company" rate.

I ended up paying about $150 for a new windshield.  No leaks at all.

I would have it done by the pros. Request PPG glass, G2G, most will have warranty.  No leaks or wind whistle at highway speeds.

Don't DIY unless you know what you're doing. YMMV

The guys who come out to you usually run about $150 to $200.  I've had several windshields replaced this way over the years and no problem.

probably had about 4 windshields on my tacoma now.  I use the same type of guy who comes out in a truck and does it 'while you wait'  No leaks and it's about 150-250 bucks.  I just google or look in the yellow pages, call around and pick the cheapest quote.  Old glass out, scrape out windshield channel, install new trim, sealant, then glass.

Cool, thanks.

You all have the wrong insurance companys if they are not footing the bill. I've had State Farm for over 20 years and I don't pay for winshield replacements.

That might be required in your state.  I know in Florida, it is state law that all auto insurance carries must cover (for free) windshield replacements.  I had a cracked windshield on my Mustang a few years back, went to the dealership, gave them my insurance info, sat around for a few minutes, got my car back, and left.  Later in the day I got a phone call from my insurance company asking if I had my windshield replaced (first time I actually talked to my insurance co), said yes, and was done.

Around here, the going rate is around $160 installed on-site, unless you've got something strange.

I just called around, and went with the company that gave me the most warm fuzzies.

For something like a windshield I would probably just go to the dealership.  Probably more expensive but more likley to be done right.
