I need some computer help guys.

My computer is locking up almost every time I turn it on.  I don't know why or what to do about it, but when I looked at the Windows Task Manager after starting it up, here are the processes that are running:

ccsvhst.exe
hpqbam08.exe
iPodService.exe
ashWebSv.exe
hpqgpc01.exe
wmiprvse.exe
wuauclt.exe
Updates from HP.exe
hpqtra07.exe
QuickDCF.exe
YahooAUService.exe
svchost.exe
taskmgr.exe
svchost.exe
LxrAutorun.exe
hpqste08.exe
iTunesHelper.exe
QTTask.exe
FreeAgentService.exe
spoolsv.exe
LxrSII1s.exe
ashDisp.exe
ALCXMNTR.EXE
AGRSMMSG.exe
hphmon06.exe
ashServ.exe
aswUpdSv.exe
hpsysdrv.exe
svchost.exe
ccsvchst.exe
kbd.exe
ashMaiSv.exe
svchost.exe
wmonitor.exe
svchost.exe
LMpdpsrv.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
AppleMobileDevice.exe
svchost.exe
MDM.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
lsass.exe

csrss.exe
smss.exe
jusched.exe
realsched.exe
ctfmon.exe
jgs.exe
VTTimer.exe
svchost.exe
System
System Idle Process

These can't all be necessary, however, I don't know which ones to shut down or how to keep them from starting on their own during the boot up process.
Can anyone provide any guidance?

Thanks.

Did it (full scan in safe mode).  Nothing was detected.  Rebooted in normal mode and the processes look to be the same.

Yes, I presumed so, but wanted to list them to give a full picture of what processes are running.

How do I prevent them from running in the first place?

Thanks.

Then using the run command, type in msconfig and post what is listed in your start up as well.

What version of Windows are you running?

run this from an account with admin priviliages.    startuplite

then restart

It's the HP crap.

You need to uninstall any HP programs, then go to Services and disable any that start with HP.

"locking up all the time" is not a symptom of a software problem.  I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

This sounds like heat or a short to me.

Open the case, use a can of air (NOT A VACUUM!) and clean it out well.  Especially the fans and heat sinks.  Then reseat all the cards and memory sticks.

For best results, take it outside to blow it out as the dust that comes out will be nasty.

Then put it back the way it was and try.  If it still crashes, get a house fan, take off the case cover, blow the fan on it and run and see what happens.

You can also try checking your bios for a temp gauge.  Run it until it crashes and then reboot to bios, check the number. 65 degrees Celsius is on the warm side.

I'll go try the startuplite now.

With regards to an overheating problem, the "locking up" only happens during the start-up process.  When I turn on the computer, the initial start-up will freeze at some point.  I then shut it off and re-start and it does fine, although it takes several minutes.

That's Avast, web and mail.  And that's a LOT of memory it's using.

Shut down Avast (in the Avast system settings) then reboot and see what happens.

Looks to me like the OP has a clear cut case of too much crapware installed.

There is only one real fix and that's a dynamite and rebuild minus the crapware.

Yeah, I know.  Unfortunately I don't have any dynamite or the skills to rebuild.
